REVIEWS

This album mixes new age, jazz, funk and several unwelcome bits of rock guitar in a collection of instrumentals and vocal tracks which are firmly in the mid tempo easy listening category. The opener is unusual because it is spoken word over new age type instrumentation but it works. “Sweet Kisses” is more mainstream with neither jazz nor new age influences but none the less a good song. There are two versions of “Comfortable Silence,” a vocal and a semi instrumental, which is a pleasant enough piano led plodder. The title track has hints of new age but with smooth jazz overtones thanks to the saxophone and trumpet, whereas “Show Time” is in a similar vein with nice keyboard and saxophone segments but also with vocals added. Two vocal tracks, “Whenever I’m With You” and “Emotions” are the only tracks that have me reaching for the skip button. The album finishes with a totally unexpected barnstorming funk semi instrumental that samples Steve Arrington’s “Weak At The Knees.”
