"INTERSECTION"
As individuals, the members of D-FOR have played or recorded with a veritable who's who of the music industry. This list of artists includes Gerald Veasley, Jill Scott, Floetry, The Roots, Yolanda Adams, BeBe Winans, Mary J. Blige, Kirk Franklin, Vivian Green, Hezehiah Walker,Michael Brecker, Pieces of a Dream, Randy Brecker, The Gabriel Hardeman Delegation, Miles Jaye and a host of others. Like most musicians working in the same locale, their paths often crossed on concert stages or recording studios and in the informal but fierce jam sessions that are legendary in the Philadelphia area. No matter the genre of music, whether it was r&b or jazz, the musical and personal chemistry between them could not be denied. In 1995 this group of seasoned musicians got together to jam and toss around some musical ideas. Within a few months they realized that they had struck upon something special and began to develop a sound that was uniquely their own. "Intersection" is an appropriate title for D-FOR's third CD as various elements of jazz, r&b, funk, and gospel cross over each other to create this band's distinctive sound. D-FOR swings, bops, and grooves with the best! Check these guys out today!
D-FOR History
During the early days prior to the band’s inception, three of the "D"s - Don, Dexter and Darryl were playing for Grammy-nominated gospel artist Gabriel Hardeman and the Gabriel Hardeman Delegation. Gabe and his nationally recognized group of highly talented vocalists and musicians proved to be a perfect fit for the trio. The Gabriel Hardeman Delegation has proven to be fertile ground for many Philadelphia musicians over several decades and the 3 Ds also benefited greatly from this association. For several years, they gigged with GHD and eventually hooked up with drummer Dennis James while on a gig with another artist. This and a few other gigs lead to that 1995 meeting mentioned in the above paragraph and Dennis soon joined GHD, completing the quartet and further cementing the chemistry that would become D-FOR.
When the band first developed, they were a quartet of musicians whose names all began with "D'. In 1998, they were introduced to a talented young saxophonist named Carl Cox. Promptly nicknamed "Doc", his playing added a new dimension to an already potent sound. A few years ago, drummer Dennis James felt the call to ministry and with some reluctance, departed the band. While Dennis' powerful drive would be sorely missed, everyone in the music business knows that the Phila./South Jersey region is a breeding ground for monster drummers. D-FOR was lucky enough to grab one of those monster drummers by enlisting the talents of drummer Chunky Ezekiel. While "Intersection" is the band's 3rd recording, it is the 1st recording with this lineup of musicians. Please enjoy "Intersection"!!

SmoothJazz.com Review
author: Scott O'Brien
This is exciting fusion-infused funk from the City of Brotherly Love, and it’ll get ya goin’… guaranteed. D-For, an exceptional group of musicians from Philly and New Jersey, has packed their latest release INTERSECTION with soulful, energetic performances, including a couple of passion-filled ballads (“Sunrise,” the first single, and the bookend track “Sunset”) as perfectly-paced change-ups. This is a most excellent collection of a dozen originals, plus a nice, fresh cover of Aretha’s hit “Until You Come Back To Me” and the Gospel classic “Blessed Assurance.” What is really going to blow you away when you listen to this project is the consistently remarkable musicianship, production, and over-riding positive vibe of this whole album. It’s got the fusion, it’s got the funk, it’s got the jazz, and it most definitely has got the soul! Taken as a whole, D-For’s INTERSECTION checks in as a can’t-miss CD, destined to be an unqualified success for this awesome Philadelphia band!
