ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Badal Roy: tabla, percussion, voice
Lewis Porter: piano, Yamaha Motif synthesizer
Freddie Bryant: acoustic and electric guitars
Karttikeya: cymbals, gongs, percussion, djembe (track 1) and Hang drum (track 3)

This exciting new cooperative quartet combines elements of North Indian classical music with jazz. Band member Badal Roy is respected worldwide for his pioneering work with Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Dizzy Gillespie, and many more of the most famous names in jazz.

The repertory of Dharma Jazz includes traditional Indian ragas, original compositions by the group members, and jazz classics such as "Maiden Voyage" (in Porter's version, called "Another Voyage"), "Naima," "Impressions" and the blues. The sound of Dharma Jazz innovates through unique instrumentation -- two melody instruments (guitar and keyboard) and two percussionists (tabla and eclectic percussion). This gives the music a spaciousness and airiness that captivates audiences. As well, it adds to the aura of freedom and improvisation that inspires these extraordinary musicians.

Love it!
Great CD! Perfect blend of jazz and world music. I put it on before I teach my music classes to calm me AND my students. Soothing, but never boring. The musicianship is first rate, and so are the arrangements.

Enjoying Dharma Jazz
Fantastic combination of world beats with wonderful melodic playing. Has been perfect listening for late winter nights and candle light. Very impressed with the production quality, sound clarity, (as well as packaging)- would make a great gift!
Very enjoyable, check it out!!

I LOVE this CD!
I can't stop listening to this CD. There are so many layers to the sounds and the rhythms. It is calming but still complex. It has become my summer soundtrack.
