notes

Dave Hickman is a teacher, singer and songwriter living in Novato California. His music is a mix of folk-rock, country and bluegrass. He has been performing around the Bay Area of SF for 10 years, with various partners and ensembles. Some of the songs provide comic relief for current events, others poke fun at life and still others are poignant and romantic. This current CD, Nothing Like a Train, mixes mandolins and banjos with drums and Hammond organs to produce unique arrangements for an eclectic group of songs.

  • Best Darn Un-Train Song
    author: David S

People say Steve Goodman's "City of New Orleans" is the best train song ever. Well, "Nothing Like a Train" is the best darn Un-Train Song! And "Pirate of the Year," a ditty about modern-day Blackbeard Kenneth Lay of (Enron fame) is a gem. Some great love songs, too, like "Back to Me."
