Album Notes

The Temple consists of ten original songs and one cover song (Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury hill"). The songs are best categorized as "alternative rock with a sophisticated edge" because in addition to the characteristically alternative guitar chords, melodic hooks, and strong dynamics, the lyrics stand out as unique in their depth and dimension. Some comparisons to other singer/songwriters with a similar sensibility include David Grey, Dave Matthews, and Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20.
The artist, Dhillon Khosla, was born and raised in Europe by a father who is a native of India and a German mother. The songs were written over a seven year period and were mainly written to reflect a major transformation in the artist's life culminating with the title track "The Temple." The metaphorical nature of the lyrics ensures that each listener will be able to relate the words to a moment in their own life when truth prevailed over the easy road.

This CD occupies a rarefied position in regular rotation in my car ... my daily commute is about 2 hours. From the first time I listened to "If we could be" I was hooked! The music is beautifully written, beautifully performed and truly moving. Even the cover of "Solsbury Hill" was delightful ... Peter Gabriel should send Dhillon a thank-you note for infusing a whole new & different life into a classic song. Wonderful music from a truly intriguing man. I've fallen in love with Dhillon Khosla ... either in spite of or maybe because of his personal journey. Frankly, I don't care which - I'm just thrilled to have discovered him, and his music.

Fabulous music by an amazing man. It says I should discuss the CD, rather than the artist, but how can you separate the two? The music that Dhillon has created doesn't exist in a vaccuum; it comes from his life and the transformation he underwent (the description here doesn't list it, so I won't either, but go to his website to find out more). The lyrics are so gorgeous and inspirational, but the music can proudly stand alone, too. 'If We Could Be' is, in my opinion, good enough to be on the radio alongside other great alternative rockers, and 'Wake Up to Mary' and 'The Temple' are both in a similar vein, toe-tapping, make-you-sway and sing-along. The Solsbury Hill cover is very well-done, with lovely instrumentals. 'A Thousand Words' and 'So Many Windows' are each lovely, mellow songs, and 'Underneath Your Hands' is romantic and beautiful. But the real standouts- 'The Deeper Side', which is so painfully dark and pretty, and 'The Whole Catastrophe', which I think would be perfect backdrop to some dramatic movie montage about finding yourself and happiness- overcome all the other songs. They are just amazing. If you want gorgeous music, thoughtful lyrics, a throaty, real voice, and an artist whose life is as inspirational as his musical creations, Dhillon Khosla shouldn't be overlooked. Buy it!
