Alec Wilder (1907-1980) was born in Rochester, New York and briefly studied composition at the Eastman School of Music. Much has been written about the technical features and categorization of his musical styles. This collection draws on the harmonic beauty of his compositions which I came admire again recently while playing "Be A Child" 25 years after I first played it. The harmony, voice leading and changes of musical character in Alec's pieces helped inspire these updated arrangements.
Diana's arrangements and performances were recorded on a Macintosh G5 using Cubase SX, MOTU 896HD, Stylus RMX, Fxpansion's BFD, Miroslav Philharmonic VST, Spectrasonics Trilogy, WAVES, a Kurzweil K2000R and a Yamaha P120.
SPECIAL THANKS: To Ron Socciarelli who commissioned Alec's "Entertainment VII" back in 1976, for the Ohio University Wind Ensemble's Alec Wilder Festival. It was there that I did my first Alec Wilder arrangements and had the privilege of meeting him and having him listen to my four-piece group. With his encouragement I moved to New York City and met Marian McPartland whose influence over the years has been substantial.
Thanks to Judy Bell at TRO whose help was immeasurable. Thanks to my husband, Jack for everything.
