Album Notes

Diego Conti finished his musical studies at the Mozarteum Academy of Salzburg under the guidance of Maestro Sandor Vegh, and started his career playing with several prestigious groups such as the Mozarteum's Camerata Academica in Salzburg, the Solisti Veneti and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. After that he performed as concert master with important italian orchestras, like Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and V.Bellini Theatre in Catania, finally devoting himself to a solo career that brought and brings him to tour in Europe, South Africa, USA, Canada, India, Middle and Far East. He works for radio, television and cinema, and recorded for EMI, RCA Victor, Erato, Nuova Era, Harmonia Mundi, Edipan and Sculture d'Aria. His world premiere of L'arte del violino, of P.A.Locatelli, was considered by the english magazine Gramophone best recording of the year, and the same was for the italian newspaper L'Unità about his recording of Zappa, Lutoslawski, Lupone and Pärt.He is also playing often contemporary music, giving many premieres of works often dedicated to him. Diego Conti is a member of Four for Tango, ContrasTango and Soloist and conductor of Gli Archi di Firenze. He gives master classes and teaches in Conservatorium.

I very much enjoyed this, especially the Violin Solo versions from Hot Rats: maximalism turned minimalism, with a very appealing 'Little Umbrellas'. My only critisism of the FZ violin/piano pieces is the disconcerting way some of them end(as though amputated alive only to re-emerge as the next piece starts) - I felt that to have them played in continuity would be less jolting. I very much enjoyed the Part piece. Being unfamiliar with Lupone and Lutoslawski, I was intrigued by these and altogether the album makes for a thoroughly satisfying "B'Tweeny Sandwitch"
