Album Notes

Our Band Mates: Dandi, Victor, Pong, Dodjie

Dandi:
At an early age, discovered that playing two chords in the guitar could actually turn out to be a song - "Horse With No Name" by America. Dandi had cheap thrills in anything that made sound - did you know that the maya bird struck an E note on a polyphonic - Yamaha FY15. Needless to say, Dandi was in search of a mystical-enchanting sound at a very early age. Played in several bands in the Philippines; gigs from family restaurants to hotel lounges; wrote jingles and movie songs but somehow, could not find what he was looking for - sound that could only be heard in his heart. Finally, saw the light in the Different Shadows band. Dandi is a one man band as he not only possesses a keen ear for sound but can also play all the instruments in the ensemble. I would say his real forte would be the black & white keys of the piano and the keyboards. So watch out there Mr.Grusin as we jam away on your Friends & Strangers every chance we get.

Victor:
A multi instrumental-do anything fellow is how to best describe this easy going individual who incidentally shares this talent with all his band mates. Sometimes you can't figure out who's playing what anymore. This guy will always walk to his own beat (he plays the drums you know). Now, if he can only keep better time between snack breaks .... he he he. You'll never hear him say NO to Sushi. Vic is the lifeline of the band not only because he is the 'ful-filler' of needs for his band mates (provide shelter for the homeless Pong, feeder of the Vegetarian Dandi, and implements cardiac arrest to the lifeless Dodjie) but also the voice of Different Shadows. From the low voice of Diomides Maturan to the highest octave of Edgar Mortis - he's got the range!!! Sorry Ate V, this guy's taken. With such compositions as 'Avenues', 'Nagiisa' (among others) it wouldn't be surprise if the band's songs will hit the airwaves soon!

Pong:
The smallest of the bunch this guy will not be in any means taken lightly of his musical talent; wow can this guy play! Pong has been playing the guitar right from birth...as a matter of fact I wouldn't doubt that he had it going on inside his moms tummy. He makes playing the guitar look so easy you'd fool yourself into thinking you can do the same. His varying styles of playing can be attributed to his round the world tour..... no, not the vacationing type of round the world but the worlds of R&B, Heavy Metal, Blues, Rock, Jazz and all others. You can hear all these good sounds rolled into one, kind of like a big crunchy Chalupa. His musical affiliations are countless from his highschool days to different bands here in the Washington DC area with cameo appearances in recording groups like 'Agos' to name one. The man can truly mix it up with the best.

Dodjie:
Now here's a man that you won't know is having fun but really is screaming with joy deep inside. A truly soft spoken individual who doesn't even shake at the rockiest of jams but let that not fool you as he can rock! Just let the GR-1 do the talking for him and all the rest will just fall in place. A chorus and flanger effect will be distinctive of this mans style in sound. Dodjie likes jazz just like the rest of us and takes his music seriously; you could really see it in his face. Dodjie has had a few affiliations with the performing arts here in Washington DC. He has been in the musical play "Bayan Ko" that played at venues around the DC area and culminated at the Kennedy Center. His musical contribution was also evident as he not only acted and sang but also played with the musicians after his act was done.

What Talent! What a soulful blend!
author: Dave Comstock
Love 'em! As your typical non-philipino american (that's right...I'm a white dude! Don't hold it against me!) I love every minute of this CD...Evan the Tagalog that I havent a clue to what it is saying is so pleasant on the ears and so instrumentally tight...It just doesnt matter! Been a friend of Vic (lead vocals) for several years and I'm greatful for being turned on to this super satisfying set of tunes....I would give it 3 thumbs up but I only have two hands!

A good mixture of style "Kaka-iba"
author: Tito Manlutac
I have to say it's nice to note that Pinoy music lives on in the hearts of many people outside of the native land. The great sound and style in your music/CD is uniquely evident of the influences you have in the culture you now all live in. Keep up the good work. We look forward to hearing more of you in the future. We'll definitely keep an ear out for NO DISTINCTION!
