Album Notes

Debut Solo album from a musician who has backed a wide variety of artists over many years as bassist, guitarist, fiddle player and harmony singer (Steve Ashley, Decameron, Mike d'Abo, Steve Hackett). Built around live vocal and acoustic guitar takes, the songs uphold the contemporary singer-songwriter tradition. They are dressed with a range of overlaid textures - hand percussion, soprano saxophone, fiddle, slide guitar and subtle keyboard moods; feature vocal harmonies that are Dik Cadbury's trademark - from his work with Decameron, where he exploited his training as a Counter Tenor to play the choirboy, to his vocal 'tour de force' on Steve Hackett's 'The Virgin and the Gypsy' ('Spectral Mornings'). He has even enlisted the vocal talents of his daughters. The tracks flow from the reflective ('Bittersweet Mystery', 'So Very Young') through Rock and Roll ('Paper Round') and Country ('Hitting the Ground Running'), showing off the diverse tastes and moods of this reluctant backliner. While the music is all his, he has also added four lyrics of his own to those of his long-standing co-writers Dave Bell (Decameron) and Pete Hicks (Steve Hackett Band). Perfect late night listening - songs from the heart; songs that tell stories.
