Dino Fregosi made a name for himself fronting a number of successful rock & punk bands over the past three decades, starting back when the drinking age was only 18, and rooms like CBGBs, Max’s Kansas City, and The Briar Patch were packed with denim and leather clad teenagers who always had one fist wrapped around a beer bottle while thrusting the other one up in the air, shouting out their favorite rock slogans.
Whether it was fronting The Hostages, Detonators, Mad Dogs, Maniacs, Missiles, Roamin' Catholics, or under any other moniker, there was no keeping this bad boy down. Dino's popularity continued to grow as he became a must-see attraction when he toured fronting the Alice Cooper tribute band, Nightmare.
Every Nightmare show began with Fregosi nailed inside a plywood coffin with his chainsaw. As the lights flooded the stage and the music started, Fregosi would crank up the chainsaw and cut his way out to the roar of the crowd. Other Nightmare antics included traditional Cooper hangings, beheadings, live snakes and feigned sex acts with mannequins and blow-up dolls.
Music fads come and go, but the legend of Dino Fregosi will go on forever. His old-school fan base of disciples has kept Dino in demand for more than 30 years, and there's no end in sight. No words, no photographs, no recordings could accurately portray what it's like to watch Fregosi on stage. You could compare him to Bon Scott, Iggy Pop, or Alice Cooper, but you still wouldn't be doing him justice. His innate ability to improvise allows him to successfully take control of any room and use just about anything or anyone as a prop. So consider yourself warned! No boundaries, no rules. That's rock & roll! That's Dino Fregosi!
This anthology of songs spans Dino’s career. It is a mix of lost demo tapes, unfinished recordings and raw live performances. More than a reflection of Dino’s talents, this CD is a celebration of his dedication to the music and a tribute to those who stood by his side, too many of whom are no longer with us.
So, to all of those who are proud to have taken part in writing, recording and performing these songs, and to all of those who were there to take these photos, and to all of those who filled the barrooms and concert halls, this collection of shared memories is for you!
