PRESS:

"Dirigo is a great blend of folk and jam-oriented grooves with a hint of good country — Johnny Cash country, not Great American Country channel-type of country. It has that alternative country sound, kind of like Wilco, except just a bit “jammier”..." Sam Shain, Village Soup

"Where many jam-oriented albums are like ways for loyal fans to throw a few bucks the way of the band…Jamericana is a solid effort that stands well enough on its own. It's catchy, easy in its own skin, and familiar in a good way from the first listen." Sam Pfeifle/Album Review, The Portland Phoenix

“…sure to be a fixture on the jam band circuit.” – George Tibbietts, Jr., The Valley Voice
"You might want to start getting excited about DIRIGO...the combination of STRANGEFOLK alums (ERIK GLOCKLER and LUKE PATCHEN MONTGOMERY) and Maine roots standard-bearers STEVE JONES and GINGER COTE has both the pedigree and the chops to be pretty damn impressive.” Music Staff, The Portland Phoenix

“Fans love the band for its unique take on traditional folk…with a rootsier, more country-influenced tack. The combination of all those elements has resulted in a mix of alt-country and jam band that’s satisfyingly groovy while being deeply melodic.” Emily Burnham, Bangor Daily News
“Each member of this band is an accomplished musician in his or her own right. In addition, they each bring years of live performance, session work in the studio and song writing skills to the table. The blending of that experience, coupled with a true love, a passion for the music they play, makes for one good ole Maine stew.” –Liz Betit, LiveMaineMusic.com

BAND INFO:

Take two-fifths of the legendary Vermont jam-band Strangefolk and add two of Maine’s premiere alt-country all stars and you get the genre-bending band Dirigo. The group released their debut album on Cornmeal Records on September 13th, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. The album is entitled “Jamericana,” in a nod to the fusion of these two closely aligned yet diverse musical genres. The group has been playing on and off over the past five years under various names but recently settled on the name Dirigo, which is also the Maine State Motto (“I Lead”).

Dirigo consists of guitarist Luke Patchen Montgomery and bassist Erik Glockler of Strangefolk, along with one of Maine's most in-demand guitar pickers, Steve Jones (The Coming Grass, The Boneheads) and drummer Ginger Cote (The Coming Grass, Cindy Bullens, Darien Brahms) who has also played nationally with Bonnie Rait, Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams. All four members sing and the songwriting is divided evenly between Montgomery, Glockler and Jones. Their sound was aptly described recently by one writer as "The Stones jamming with The Allman Brothers at Willie Nelson's barbecue".

While Strangefolk's passionate fan base provides strong support for the band throughout New England, the rocking alt-country influences will also attract fans from outside of the jam-band genre. Dirigo has crisscrossed the Northeast during the summer of 2011, playing festivals in Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts along with top rock clubs throughout New England.
