Album Notes

On his second soloalbum, Stuttgart-based Bassplayer Dirk Blümlein shows a consequent development in his music. With 18 tracks this album shows the whole stretch of his work, from groovy funk to wonderful ballads, from country to electro and much more.With 4 covers he tributes his musical idols. The musicians on this recording are all long time pals, well-known in the Jazz scene of southern germany. That´s what makes this CD a authentic overview over Dirk Blümleins musical universe.


growing up:
After learning to play the flute Dirk Blümlein started his musical carrer as a trumpet player and turned to bass guitar at age 14, being first influenced by players like Geddy Lee or Graham Maby. He toured europe with Ska-Band "NO SPORTS" for about ten years and 5 cds. Currently he´s a member of the german pop band "Fools Garden" promoting their new cd "ready for the real life".

He has played and recorded with guys like Michael Kersting, Laurel Aitkin, Peter Krauss, Joerg Reiter, Ron Spielman, Bodo Schopf, Daniele Groff (Italy), Volker Hinkel.

Dirk studied to play the bass guitar at Stuttgart "Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst", making his master in 1999. His teachers were Thomas Heidepriem and Thomas Stabenow. Being in music school he developed a liking for Jazz and Fusion, Weather Report and Jaco Pastorius made a very big impression.

Dirk´s self titeled debut album will soon be available on CDBaby, as well as another of his´ projects, "Dirk Blümlein Terzett" with their cd "alles für den künstler", featuring a sax/clar - drums - bass - trio.

"i´m a 37-year old guy that loves to make music, who loves to play the bass.
that´s all i do since the age of 20. I like all kinds of music, whether its jazz or rock or pop-music.
i do my own musical projects as well as play in other bands, do studio work or even give lessons. i like huge cars, watching and doing sports, nutella, snow in winter and the sun in summer."
