Album Notes

Basilea!! I was taken aback by her sheer beauty. When I first gazed upon the town, the setting sun was casting a glittering veil over her face, while the blue moon of Sirius rose majestically between the twin peaks of Mount Folleton. The town started to glimmer and sparkle as the sun and moonlight reflected off her face - the riotous colors fusing together to form a brilliant Trinian sapphire bow that reflected off a crystal arch - Basilea's gateway. It was mesmerizing and Basilea was drawing me in, calling to me like a beautiful song ...

Reviews:

"Really appreciating A New Beginning could take a bit of work. For one, the songs, especially the lyrics don't make any sense by themselves. That is because the songs work in tandem with a story set in the fantasy land of Basilea. So, to make sense of a song like, Courage Against The Rage, you have to know the musicians are talking about a fire that breaks out in Basilea... well, you have to read the story. The music, which is prog rock, with hints of jazz and metal, is good by itself, but is elevated to a much higher plane when accompanied by the story, which you can read on www.distantdream.com" - Rave India magazine review

Among my favorite concept albums of all time…
author: Praveen

I have been a progger for nearly a decade now, and this album has been among the nicest musical surprises that I have had over the years, right up there with Dream Theater’s Images & Words, Spock’s Beard’s The Light, and Tangent’s Music that Died Alone to name a few. I got drawn in through the website, and before long I knew I was onto something cool. Looking back, I wasn’t prepared for was how intelligent the concept was, how nicely the music complemented it, and how well the album has endured and in fact improved after repeated listenings. This is a truly standout concept album, with a simple but beautifully executed concept, absolutely no fluff, with every song holding its own and fitting seamlessly in the story. Its one of the rare albums that I play straight through without having to skip a song. Among the many highlights for me are the fiery Courage Against the Rage, with its downright stunning imagery, and the title track which has many musical changes but flows gorgeously against the backdrop of the story. The music covers many styles, and is best classified as progressive rock with tinges of prog metal, and is a great treat for fans of rock guitar and keyboards. To the uninitiated: Invest a little time to understand the concept, listen to the album on a good pair of headphones, and then pop the CD in your car for endless prog nirvana!!

The best progressive rock album in ages

I'm a huge fan of progressive rock and have been rather disappointed by recent progressive rock albums till this one. This one is simply amazing! I checked out the website and the graphics, the story and the music is just amazing - I can't wait to see these guys in concert. For $5 a CD, you can't go wrong - a must buy!
