Album Notes

"very cool...spacey and melodic. Well done." - Groove Distribution

Self Realization was released in July of 2003. This exciting vision of post hip-hop instrumental music brings an organic warmth to a genre that is too often fixated with the digital. The album consists of 15 instrumental tracks that incorporate soulful and jazzy grooves, lounge house, ambient drum and bass, dub reggae as well as various eastern musical traditions.

Self Realization has received praise from music connoisseurs of all genres - rocking the speakers of hip hop purists, soul vocalists, jazz artists, and electronica DJs and producers. It is a true genre-crossing album and represents a new direction for sample-based electronic music.

A study in texture and mood
author: DJ Stylus
I can be high falutin' and talk about how this joint uses the digital realm to subtly morph different melodic and rhythmic themes over time. Or I could be crass and say this record is good for late night freaky-deek. Both descriptions are equally applicable. This is a really cohesive record. File next to Cinematic Orchestra and Jazzanova and zone out.

Moving into a new paradigm of electronic music
author: G. Wright Dean IV
The first "must-buy" album in an otherwise dreary 2003, this stunning instrumental LP by DC producer DJ Eurok is seamless in its execution. Amidst the current landscape of shameless bling-blingery on one side, and irrelevant, geekdriven technobabble on the other, it is refreshing to hear an artist crafting thoughtful, intricate beats that never pander to today's tired trends. Eurok's driven, yet atmospheric hooks could give DC the sound it has been looking for to become a major player in the (inter)national musical scene. While the album is consistent throughout, personal faves include the recent hit "Benning Road Bodhittsatva" as well as the moody "7Ocho", and the classic "One Truth Remains".

not just a bunch of beats that drop and add here and there
author: weba
this cat is not making a bunch of looped beats and afew drops ... these are truly musical compositions ... it's downbeat yet driving and inspiring at times, i use it to wake up and go to sleep ... 7/ocho is a spicey number that stand out as well as libertad ... i look forward to hearing more from him.
