Storming first offering! Sophomore out 5th Feb 2007
author: Olli
I only just came across this site.
I was looking for Djevara's second album "Third World War (cast the first stone)" due out at the time of writing.
God is White is a storming tirade against everything that is wrong in the world today. Bass (Usuyak Bassey) does not shrink from attacking in unequivocal terms all the greedy capitalists, warmongers, racists and bigots he can get at in 14 eye watering, ear splitting tracks. He spits venom in the face of Politicians including Robert Mugabe. (Bass was born in this country but his parents were from Zimbabwe).
He weaves cryptic rhymes while always getting a point across, even in what sounds like a straight-forward mosh pit filler like "Meanwhile South of the border" which is about western imperialist exploitation of third world resources, even though the lyric says "we're gonna make the people JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP!"
The music is fast and furious most of the time but steps back occasionally for some quiet reflection before storming on. The musicianship is top notch and of course the production is exactly as it should be since it was controlled at every stage by the band.
I have read a few reviews of this album and it amuses me that the most common criticism is that whilst it's good it is too long!
I bet if they bought a wedding ring they wouldn't moan that it had more gold than they expected would they?
Don't buy this album if you are a Neo-conservative, Blairite, fascist etc etc. Also if you think Coldplay are quite a heavy rock band.
Otherwise you should buy it. You will be giving to charity at the same time, Djevara always give 10% of their income to charity.

"A truly tumultuous debut offering"
author: Kerrang! (UK Rock Magazine)
"A truly tumultuous debut offering, that recalls the vital energy of Rage Against The Machine and Jane’s Addiction’s thrillingly abrasive introductions to the world. Inspiring."

This is a brilliant CD. Djevara have great songs, great messages, and great style. Any punk rocker, metal maniac, or if you just like politically charged music - you should get this. For a first release they've done a splendid job.
