DJ FORMULA'S soundtrack to the ENGOVE COMICS hit!
DJ Formula (The Logical) and Engove Comics main man Mike Garrett got to talkin' one day, and decided CD soundrack albums to the two Blastorm comic book adventures would be too cool and fun to say "Nah" to. It was a no-brainer. Something done only once before (okay, maybe more than just once, but YOU try to prove otherwise! It's a RARITY.) with Sam Kieth's THE MAXX #5 (Image Comics), in the early-to-mid '90s. So they were going to do this, too. For both books; speaking of which, the sequel, BLASTORM: BLOODSTORM is available HERE: http://cdbaby.com/cd/formuladj ).
Whether you read the book or listen to this record -- or better yet, DO BOTH -- the two artforms gel perfectly. They compliment -- no, COMPLETE -- each other, not overshadowing the other. Neither is more more complicated nor too simple aesthetically. That is, Garrett's organic, edgy and gritty artwork and the stripped-down, textured industrial sonics of Formula FIT... like a glove. And there you go: a bona fide soundtrack to a comic book story.
From the beginning, it was just for-fun; an experiment to see if it could be done. And to what success. The truth is, Formula HADN'T actually created the music FOR such a purpose as soundtracks. Instead, as the story goes, he sent Garrett a whole bunch of tracks, letting the comic book creator take his pick, assembling them into an order aesthetically resembling the sequence of events in the stories. And from there, the track titles were conjured.
It was a fluke, really, how perfectly-matched everything was -- the titles with the music, the music with the visiuals/tone of the book... But it didn't blow up in their faces. Had you not been reading this, you'd never know said circumstances. But hey, the ends justifies the means. The outcome is a pleasure, and you're sure to agree.
Pick up the 'Zombie Killer' book (through www.ENGOVE.com) and read it. Or, maybe you just want to get the CD, and live a flawless sonic representation of superheroics -- superheroics involving pro-wrestling zombie lords (AND in the sequel, vicious bloodsucking vampires! -- http://cdbaby.com/cd/formuladj ), no less!
But if you want to do yourself a real favor, get the FULL experience -- pick up the book AND CD, and behold the coolest teamup in years -- read along to DJ Formula's SONICS INSPIRED BY BLASTORM: ZOMBIE KILLER! Then, upon digestion and recovery, locate and devour the BLASTORM: BLOODSTORM book and its DJ Formula album.
