DJRJ is an electronic dance music composer who creates hybrids of trance, house, techno, and art music. The progressive sound of his music is a result of ever changing melodies, complex rhythms, and deceptive harmony. His tracks are composed and sequenced under the platforms of FL Studio and Ableton Live.
DJRJ was created in 2004 as a side project of Eric Brook, a composer at Oberlin Conservatory. This side project provided an outlet to compose beat based electronic music that is both accessible and influenced by art music. By employing techniques acquired in composition and theory classes, DJRJ's music attempts to avoid generic pop sounds, overused cliches, and dull harmonies that many electronic dance music songs employ.
