Album Notes

Doug Kearney My Backyard

Born and raised in the heart of Louisiana, Doug picked up his first guitar at the tender age of 10 and by 16 he was playing his first gigs. At 18 he began working in bars, traveling the crawfish circuit, and doing concerts and festivals throughout Louisiana and Texas.
Emersed in southern blues, jazz, country, texas swing, and swamp music Kearney began to develop his own unique style. With influences from Duane Allman and Lowell George he started writing and developed a true passion for slide guitar.
After working in the South for 13 years, Doug moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1986. Working the greater Seattle club scene afforded him the musical freedom to explore various creative avenues. This is where his desire for writing original material blossomed. Hence, his unique and soulful style of guitar playing, singing and song-writing evolved.
Most recognize Kearney by his funky rhythm-based blues, sultry slide guitar and clean cutting-edge sound.
Please take a few moments to enjoy listening to this truly unique and soulful artist.

REVIEWS

My Backyard
author: Frances Flynn Woulard
Oh my God! Little did I know, that little Doug Kearney that I used to listen to on the stoop of his house would end up this darn good. I was enthralled with his coolness back then. Now I'm blown away with his talent. He has absorbed everything great I love about our Louisiana culture, our magic, our magnetism, our stories, and yes, our diversity, in his music. Makes me miss home. Words just can't describe how awesomely proud I am of him. I'm singing his praises to everyone I know now that I've found him!

What is that sound??????
author: Chad Vincent
That's the sound of 39 years of playing guitar...doing one thing and doing it well. And the sound/production of this project is like falling in a deep pool of crystal clear flowing water... an analog depth that is unmistakable in an age of too many MP3's and undersampled sound. Rich Courtney's playing concept of drum sounds and his ability to capture the organic nuance of every instrument is stunning. I want that bicycle on the cover.

No disappointments, every song rocks! Bon Temps Roulette
author: Franklin Frey
I love the southern influence throughout this CD. The guitarwork is flawless, and the recording the same. The lyrics are as soulful as the music. I have listened to this CD over and over, and it just gets better with every listen. You rarely hear slide playing like you'll find here, such as on La Fleur Rouge. If you like sizzling guitar cd's, then I highly recommend this one. Tele's Rule!
