'First Snow' is the first album from Danielson, Kokborg and Nodler, who have developed a sound hinting of Appalachian mountain music blended with rich classical harmonies.
The mainly instrumental works on the album range from the the sparse "Liza, Leavin' This Day" to the harmonically fuller "Randy's Romp." The one piece with lyrics, "Keepers of the Forest" is a new rendition of a traditional Scandinavian folk tale.
Seth Danielson is a research oceanographer at the University of Alaska during the day and a 5-string banjoist and recording engineer the rest of the time.
Erik Kokborg is a classically trained violinist who teaches violin to children and adults in Fairbanks, Alaska. When not teaching, Erik can be found sailing his boat in the pristine Prince William Sound.
Skip Nodler is a master wood craftsman who turns bowls, plates, tops and boxes on his lathe in a solar-powered wood shop near Ester, Alaska. Skip is a singer and songwriter as well as a multi-instrumentalist,playing guitar, octave mandolin, and others.
These three musicians have been making music together off and on for nearly a decade, and weekly for the past four years at a Fairbanks coffee shop.
