This CD is amazing and shows all the brilliance that develops over Mackenzie's subsequent releases. I am totally hooked. I highly recommend it - and take a slow stroll through all of his releases. They are filled with insight and depth wrapped up in pop hooks. Super fun.

Love the crispness of this artist's mind when it comes to writing his songs. Love the rhythm. If you want to just chill and drive cross country, this is the album to pop in ur cd player.

this album has a little more slickness and a lot more funk than dan's debut album, "shakytown," but it's still meticulous work and still very, very good. dan's voice gets better and better with every album, but make no mistake about it -- his forte is still songwriting. the lyrics on this album are keen and crisp, from the driving, ambitious "econocar" to the sentimental, but adorable "black cadillac" to the oddly endearing "something good" (a song about liking the way a girl's eyes look when they are "framed by optimetric steel").
the only issue i have is that this record lacks a coherent theme. could we conclude from the title, "good things," that dan has reached inner peace? or at least relationship nirvana. on "shakytown," he sounded puppydog-heartbroken on every other song, and there was a certain appeal to that. something about him music makes a girl want to pick him up, dust him off a little, and ask him out on a nice, old-fashioned date. if you can manage it, email dan through this site and try to get a copy of "shakytown" while you still can.
