david m bailey is a singer/songwriter with a spiritual core that runs throughout his music. Since being diagnosed with a brain tumor, david has discovered the subtle irony of the simultaneous fragility and strength of life. He takes this lesson and turns it into a gift that he shares with anyone who will take a moment to hear. If you are a person at the top of your game, you meet a companion who knows how much work and how many dreams it took you to get there. If you are one who is dealing with a time when your "heart gets rearranged," you meet a friend who offers words of courage, insight and hope.

In his new album, Lost and Found, david bailey presents the wisdom that comes with time while maintaining the vision that comes after life gets turned upside down. As always, david is prophetic and pastoral without being preachy or assuming. The songs are about life's journey. Our trek to find what is lost sometimes leads us to something fresh, like the values of friendship, the beauty of a new day and the secret of life found in caring for people around us. Lost and Found includes some classic bailey themes: time, dreams and gratitude. It also tackles more challenging subjects like reawakening love, exposing prejudice, and church politics (which are not unlike other institutional politics). The melodies dovetail into the lyrics in a way that seem effortless and natural. david's music stirs the soul, his words make us think, his humor makes us smile and his message helps us not miss the gift of each new day. david, thank you.

There are a number of singer-songwriters whose accomplishments far exceed their reputation, and high on that list is david m. bailey. It's a bittersweet kind of joy (to crib a line from one of his new songs) to encounter an artist of such insight, warmth and honesty, at the same time to realize that he has yet to be discovered by most folk fans around the country. With luck - and especially if he keeps writing the kind of uplifting testaments of faith, love and hope you'll find on this CD - his work will soon get the widespread attention it deserves. It is, to go back to another of david's telling lyrics, a hope that will not die.

My wife loves these CD's, and this one did not disappoint. CD BABY was very efficient at shipping it too.

  • spiritual yet not preachy

This Virginia singer/songwriter offers up 15 spiritually-tinged tunes on this, his 6th recording. The disc starts off with the engaging "Lost & Found" in which Bailey suggests "First you must believe, then you'll understand, Like a dream that's waiting in the lost & found." Bailey is spiritual yet not preachy throughout this disc. He simply suggests through his storytelling, and the result is a rich, deep soundscape of wonderful tales. The disc follows through familiar singer/songwriter territory; very calm, contemplative, pleasing and never over-the-top or even, if you will, loud. Elements of pop, rock and folk permeate the sound. Bailey sings the following on "Thank You", a fine, simple ballad "Thank you for all that you have given, Because of what you've given I am here." Nicely put. It's obvious in listening, that Bailey is so very comfortable. Comfortable with what he can do on a record, with some fine guitar playing, writing and a soothing voice. One real fine Dave Matthew's type song is "Love Again" which has a positive beat accompanying "Remember how you felt when you knew it was alive." This being Bailey's 6th recording, I find myself curious as to the style and direction of his previous releases, one having been a live album. That's the great thing about enjoying a writer, and then discovering their other works. His press notes encourage listeners "to recognize glimpses of God in the ordinary moments of our lives." I can't think of a better time than now to enjoy Mr. Bailey's fine album. Congratulations sir. Contact: David M. Bailey

  • brings us to a place of deeper wisdom...
    author: American Brain Tumor Association

The lyrics tell the story of life suddenly turning upside down; the melody is the soft coaxing we have come to expect from david. His newest album, Lost & Found, brings us to a place of deeper wisdom, intertwined with david's quintessential humor and humility.
