Album Notes

Hi Everybuddy! Holy bananas, you look lovely today...

Welcome to the musical tale of the great monkey, Phineas McBoof, and his adventures traveling the world to form his legendary band, Phineas McBoof And His International Band Of Misunderstood Geniuses.

The band sings some way cool songs during this completely true story, like “What My Robot Said” (which, like most country songs, is about a robot) and “Don't Monkey With My Heart” (which, like most pop songs, is not about a robot). No matter what, do NOT click on “Banana,” as it is probably too lyrically complex for the casual listener.

Wanna meet some of the characters in the band? Try “Backbone The Octopus” (to meet the world's only known eight armed drummer) and “Riley The Robot” (there's that robot again...). But by ALL means avoid “Lenny Long Tail,” where our intrepid band unintentially busts up a classical music concert. Sorry about that.

Not to be completely overshadowed by a story about the world's most charismatic monkey-fronted band, the album features world class musicians to feast your ears upon, including rockin' Chris Isaak Band guitarist Hershel Yatovitz, opera superstar Nathan Gunn, jazz great Anton Schwartz, Grammy nominated string ensemble Quartet San Francisco, and former high school music teacher Cory Cullinan (that last one doesn't have quite the same platinum ring to it, does it?....).

You may catch yourself smiling, singing, and grooving to this CD, which of course is just wrong. Do stop it and go back to being serious. Honestly, what if your kids saw you behaving this way? For more info, visit www.doctornoize.com.

The Ballad of Phineas Mc Boof
author: J Domenick
I purchased this CD as a gift for a baby shower so I have not listened to the whole CD yet. But the couple expecting the new baby have chosen the name of Phineas for their new son, so that is why I bought it. I did listen to the samples on the web page and liked them. And I am sure that they will like it also as the new Mom is a DJ and loves all music. I will also give her this web site after the surprise shower and ask her to make a comment.

This CD tells the story of a musical monkey on a quest to write the world's most perfectest song. As he travels he collects new members for his International Band of Misunderstood Geniuses. Song tracks alternate with narrative tracks. Tracks that stand on their own are numbers 3, 8 (an XM Kids #1 hit), 10, 12, and 14. But really you'll want to get the whole thing. Every moment of this CD is packed with music, interesting voices, sound effects, humor, and cultural references. You'll find something new to notice and appreciate even after 100 listens. The tunes are infectious and kids will love the wacky characters and situations. Be forewarned that this is part one of a series. The story line is left hanging and the CD ends with an "intermission." So if you buy this one and your kids love it (which they probably will), you'll be in for a second purchase soon. (As of March 2008, the 2nd CD is nearly complete but not yet available.)

Can't stop singing it myself!
author: Lynn Hyland
My extremely active 4 year old has spent the last couple weeks sitting (ok, many times dancing) in his room listening to this album. Now I can't stop singing the songs. They are so catchy & enjoyable. I find myself taking it in the car for my son, but also so I can hear the story myself. I can't believe how attentive my very inattentive son can be when listening to this CD. Thrilled we found this & have been recommending it to all our friends.

Amazing entertainment for kids
author: Adam Bock
I bought this for my son, who will turn 4 this summer. He has basically been playing it non-stop for about a week now. He dances, he sings, he laughs, and he constantly requests to hear it in the car when we go places. It's very listenable for adults as well-- the Beatles/general rock references are intriguing and, like Sesame Street or The Muppet Show, many of the jokes are targeted at adults/parents. I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone with young kids.
