notes

Meet Doctor Sparkles... mad scientist, cartoon character, mystical chicken, beach bum, Santa's Elf, spaceship landing sequence, Mexican tomcat, fantasy crooner, Mr. Gonad wannabe, Latin cornball, mushroom chorus, New Age wise guy and more... His attitude is tropically infectious, he plays the ukulele and he's really a doctor!

The title track of his debut album "Sail Away" was named Cabaret Song of the Year (2006) by Just Plain Folks, and the with album itself being voted 2nd runner-up for Cabaret Album of the Year (2006), "Sail Away" is one creative far out collection of songs...

"You really can’t classify Doctor Sparkles’ music as it’s in a class all its own. 'Sail Away' is a comical, hokey, island music inspired CD. Interestingly enough, Doctor Sparkles has a great voice and plays the ukulele quite well. 'Island Showers' is Doctor Sparkles’ solo performance with the ukulele and it is breathtakingly beautiful. 'The One That I Love' is a simple but wonderful love song that showcases Doctor Sparkles’ voice nicely. I could hear some folk influences in this tune." (The Music Review - www.themusicreview.net)

"Dr. Sparkles first CD “Sail Away” is a pseudo-psychedelic, island breezy, folky, Latin influenced ferris wheel ride for the child within. A musically sound, witty masterpiece." (T.H. Bliss - deleriumreview.com)

"Doctor Sparkles has a very vivid musical imagination. I think he’s even pretty damn talented. His voice can be almost breathtakingly beautiful. But he wails on a freaking ukulele... OK. If you dig ukulele, buy this. You’ll never look back. If you like driving your friends insane with your eclectic taste in music, buy this. If you have kids who you want to dissolve into laughter at the sound of music, buy this. If you hate ukulele, run." (Junkie Jones Music Reviews)

"The uke-kook is the wholesome Ian Whitcombe, strumming his old time ukulele music as if the last ninety years or so never happened. Except he's dressed like a Dr. Seuss character, so now we're back to forty years. And his reggae-themed/Chipmunks-backed up Christmas song brings him witin thirty years. I take it back - this super-fun strummer is practically from the future!" (Flamin' Waymon - Roctober Magazine)

Here are what a few of his fellow musician friends on MySpace have said...

"Wow. I can undeniably say you are THE most original and unique artist I've come across on myspace... and that is a beautiful and wonderful thing. The tunes are special and catchy. Keep your talent and your individuality always." (Rainmarket)

"Your CDs are flippin' BRILLIANT!!!! I laughed! I cried! And then, after my bi-polar episode, I listened to your music and it was frightfully delightful! Genius! Seriously!" (Duke of Uke)

"I love your music more each time I hear it. You have such creative flair. Original and imaginative music, painting colourful, inspiring dreams!" (ChiasmusX)

"There's a special place in Cliff Edwards' grave that's empty. You've got his magic ukulele!" (Al Duvall)

"Dr. Sparkles.....your songs are a psychedelicatessen! Yummy!!!" (The Space Lady)

"Captain Beefheart meets Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. How could I not love you?" (Adam James)

"Doctor, your music sure does heal the tired work-a-day soul, you big 'ole coo coo-nut. Thank you!" (Kelli Rae Powell)

this cd has some quarky songs but in all very enjoyable. I'd like to have the cords to the songs so I can learn to play them on my own uke.

Dr. Sparkles is inciting revolution in my heart. No longer will I sit back and only think disjointed and ridiculous thoughts...oh no! I will rebel! Thanks to Dr. Sparkles and his inspiring songs I am proudly saying deeply profound/foolish things. Thank you, Dr. Sparkles.
