Album Notes

The release of this album was sort of a Last Big Goal for the band, as our future became somewhat uncertain. With the various Squids graduating college and moving away from Athens, we felt that a one album legacy just wasn't very satisfying. Surely we needed something to point to as the end result of the three years we've been playing together since the last album came out. Put out a great album? We did it once, and it was high time to prove we could do it again.

On the occasions where we discussed our ideas and goals for this album (usually over some Taco Bell), there were several recurring sentiments: We wanted it to be a start-to-finish experience, to really feel like one united album. We wanted to play around with the sound using more instruments, rather than build everything on guitar riffs. We wanted to preserve the fun, sing-along quality of our first album, to make a CD that you didn't have to *try* to like. Mostly we just wanted to really put in the time and effort to make an album that we'd be proud of for a long time. It took a lot more time and effort than we expected, but we kept at it until we had "Doctor Squid Changes the Channel".

It's a loose concept album. It's full of really catchy melodies. There synths and whistling and singing saw and other stuff to give each track it's own unique feel. It flows. It feels more mature: not somber, but not silly either.

At this point we don't know what the future of Doctor Squid looks like. We'd love nothing more that to put out another album one day, or to keep doing so every couple years for as long as we live. Maybe we'll get lucky and do exactly that. But at the very least, we're proud to have put out "Doctor Squid Changes the Channel".

So original and catchy . I can't believe this band is still unsigned. The kind of music you want to listen to to get your day off to a great start.
