Album Notes

Knoxville musical icon and the driving force behind 70’s rebel rousing psycho swing band Bull Rooker, singer\songwriter Dave O’Dell in collaboration with area musicians - The Chilly Wonders are soon to release into Knoxville’s vibrant music scene a new themed CD compilation SOUTHERN EMOTIONS. Dave O'Dell's music is a soulful trip through a darker South populated by rusty cars, snake handlers, and passionate miscreants. Out of the Tennessee Kingsnakes, Bull Rooker, and the Senders comes the next step in iconic Southern music making: the Chilly Wonders. An eclectic acoustic\electric guitar featured album, the CD is an Americana trip through the south with references to local landmarks and local flavor. The album features lots of spirited southern rock with Dave O’Dell’s slide and steel guitars. O’Dell has a rich, powerful voice and many tunes are punched up with lots of lively rhythm and true to the title - emotions drawn in. The Title track “Southern Emotion”is a gothic dirge, scrapbook old south transitioning to modern times. The #8 track Alcohol Troubles was featured in local film company Think Tank’s art film entitled “Get Up” - an entry in the 2009 Granite Falls Film Festival. Knoxville producer / engineer Joel Fairstein of Castle Acoustics initially was to take a limited role in the post-production of Southern Emotions. "After listening to the raw tracks, the strength of the material convinced me to take a more active role in developing the final project. My goal was to bring into focus Dave’s rare, authentic southern character." As well as the creative source for the bands the Senders and the Tennessee Kingsnakes with the 1997 release Snake Dance – David O’Dell has a continuing collaboration with local artists such as FreeJ Warren, Harmonica by Bukka Billy York, vocalist Melanie Hayes, bass: Chris Towson, drums: J Miller, Chadwick Pryson - piano and organ, keys with Earl Texas Shy Mosely, and background vocals by Peggy Towson, and Dariel York.
