After a serious accident left Michael Brouillet (lead vocals) unable to speak for over 6 weeks and facing a possible throat surgery, he realized his music and life needed to take a more purposeful direction. In this period of silent retrospection, he was filled with the frustration to create. After recovering, Brouillet combined his vocal and keyboard talents with G-Smiles’ funk guitar, BJ’s beats, and Max’s slap-happy bass to form Dog Men Poets.
Often compared as “Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Stevie Wonder with a G-Love flavor,” Dog Men Poets have continued to create meaningful music. The band’s upbeat vibe is an eclectic mix of old school flavor and youthful enthusiasm. With sweet harmonies over pointed lyrics, Dog Men Poets maintain a growing buzz and have “established themselves as one of the hottest new live acts throughout the South.” [Jason Gossard, San Antonio Current]
Drive, determination, and savage optimism are the cornerstones of Dog Men Poet’s family philosophy. Their first single “Anthem” (from their debut album “Birth of the Cool”) has secured rotation on over 110 radio stations, with their fans’ enthusiasm and support propelling them to ten Top 25 listings. Dog Men Poets have also been recognized as “Best Band” by San Antonio Current, “Top 5 Bands to Watch” by Feedback Magazine, “Best Rock Band” by Study Breaks Magazine, and “Best Party Band” by Edge Magazine. “Birth of the Cool” was nominated as My Texas Music’s “Texas Indie Album of the Year.”
On their third album “Perspective Vol. 1: Sounds of Survival,” Dog Men Poets merge their spoken word slam poetry roots, funk guitar, and up-tempo groove to create a sound described as “shameless, exciting, revolutionizing, and fun.” [S. McDonald, Tasty Magazine]
Dog Men Poets have opened for such name acts as Fall Out Boy, Paul Wall, Black Eyed Peas, Blink 182, KC & The Sunshine Band, Fishbone, Grand Funk Railroad, and Dave Mathews. Think Henry Rollins meets Edgar Allan Poe meets Che Guevara. And that’s who you’ll find at a Dog Men Poets show.
