notes
This CD was conceived by techno mavens Salz as an Anglo-German production exploring different facets of Thomas Dolby's 1981 recording of "One Of Our Submarines".
The original was the B-side of his international hit single "She Blinded Me With Science", and as such it was mainly overlooked by the commercial mainstream.
However, to club goers, fans and electronic music afficianados, it remains one of the stand-out songs of its era.
The sonic layering of the track suggests dark underwater worlds of wartime hell.
Not surprising, seeing as Dolby's uncle (featured in a black and white photo on the CD cover) drowned in a British submarine on manoeuvres late in the Second World War.
ALL AUTOGRAPHED COPIES ARE SOLD OUT.

It rocks.
author: 80sGeekIt's great. If you like OOOS, and remixes, this is totally for you. Very creative efforts from these artists. Excellent for listening or dancing to.
Must CD for fans!
author: ErikThis is a CD with a number of interesting versions of One Of Our Submarines. Not all mixes are equally impressive but that is always the way with remix compilations. I especially like Thomas Dolby's live version.
Rare example of an excellent set of remixes
author: DarcyThis CD was a surprise. I came to buy The Sole Inhabitant and found the OOOS remix CD. I have a collection of remixes that do not add to the experience of the original (Pet Shop Boys and New Order are both examples where more is actually less) but this collection is a very modern, and very good, update to the original. The genius of the underlying material makes a strong foundation but the remixes show the potential of the music for a new audience in a new century. Gamble with cost of this CD, I'm confident the odds are in your favour that you will like it.
Ooo I get it!
author: WhaziznameI often don't understand the motivations behind remixes, & Maxi singles. Most seem to mutate the original tune with little regard for the original vision; but not so with this disc. Every mix adds something new, and nessesary. Each creates it's own slightly modified original vision. Excellent CD!!!
I am glad I bought this remix CD
author: What a wonderful CD!One of Our Submarines is one of my favorite songs by Thomas Dolby. I enjoy the original version and now these very interesting remix versions. These remixes prove that a good song will always stand the test of time. This CD is an excellent addition to any Thomas Dolby/80's music/remix collection in general.
Great update to all time classic
author: CLOCKDVAThe "Golden Age of Wireless" remains after almost 25 yrs the one album I would take with me on stranded island. Of course OOOSIM wasn't on the album's first release in '82 but rather added to the hastelly re-issue of '83 after the success of the "Blinded by Science" EP (another sonic gem). This is a brillan t reworking of one of TMDR's best tunes. Why he abandoned this style after one album is still agreat mystery to me as I have never heard another kind of music quite like it before or since. I'm thrilled with this reworking of a great tune from the great 80's. I also really appreciate Mr. Dolby's obvious nod to Kraftwerk in his live version. They were a big influence on him but TMDR managed to do with electronic music something no else has IMO, to prove that machine music does have a soul after all. Thanks again.

new musicians start here.
author: kenny croughanfrom golden age to retrospectacle, mr dolby has been consistent in excellence. one of our submarines is a classic reworked for a new generation of fans. many cd's have several versions of one track which after a while becomes monotonous, but in the case of one of our submarines, it still sounds fresh play after play. something that the musicians of today could learn from instead of releasing single after soundalike single. i dream of a new album and still hope that dream comes true, but for now i'll make do with thomas's reworks of art.
"pure genius"
author: philip doe (uk)AFTER BEING A FOLLOWER OF MR DOLBYS WORK FOR AS MANY YEARS AS I CAN CARE TO REMENBER I FIND THIS "PURE GENIUS" I LIVED EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF THE EMOTIONS CONTAINED "MR DOLBY IF YOU READ THIS PLEASE GIVE US MORE!!!!!!!!!!!
Thomas, your special touch is missed!
author: Jeff DaniherThe closest I ever got to see TD play was in Cleveland. I had a ticket to see him and the Lost Toy People play on the Aliens Ate My Buick tour, but circumstances caused him to cancel. I have had to settle for the occasional CD and I look forward to each and every release. You may ask if I am really obsessed to purchase a CD totally dedicated to one song...except that each song on this album is a unique and worthy variation. I am delighted to add this disc to my collection, and I refer each person who asks "where did you get that song?" to CD Baby's website. Great site, great stuff, great service and great prices. Keep up the great work.
More, please
author: Larry RothThere's an old musical idea, variations on a theme, which has come around again as 'remixes'. This CD is as good an example as any of how well that can work when the source material is up to it. In the absence of any new material from Mr. Dolby, this is as good as it gets. As long as he's going to hold on to that day job, we'll just have to make do. ;-)
OT'd on Thomas Dolby
author: Dr DebtSlip this baby into the CD player in the dash, crank it up, put some beef in the bass, drop the top, put the radar detector on highway mode, and slip down a fast road when no one else is on it. Rest assured, it's hypnotic without being repetitious, although it's eight tracks of the same cut, all different mixes, but ultimately dissolving into a pulse of commonality. Great for getting seriously OT'd in a sound from the 80's you'll quickly realize how much you've missed and wonder where it went.
Another must-own CD from a music god
author: Linn PletcherI bought this CD because I've been an obsessive TMDR fan since I was about 8 years-old. I really wasn't expecting anything too speical, just something to add to my collection but I was VERY wrong! It was totally awesome. I put it in at a party I was having and everyone there (including yours truly) totally flipped out it was so awesome. In short, buy it!!!!!
Very cool interpretations of a classic
author: Robert WrightI love remixes that draw most elements from the original recording. It's like seeing inside the art of the original artist to hear obscure tracks out of their original contexts, and very satisfying when they're placed in a fresh, exciting setting... This CD does just that, and what a great track to get the treatment! The remixes are long and develop slowly, so be prepared to have a full meal and not just a snack - come hungry and you'll be fulfilled. Don't be surprised, however, if you find, like I did, that your favorite new version is Dolby's live one from his limited pressing CD "Forty". Dolby remains the most sensitive interpreter of his own compositions, and we should be thankful he included us 20 years ago when he blazed down the road he forged to the world of accessible techno-pop.
Fantastic, classic, current, vibrant. I want more!
author: ColleenFantastic. After all these years still classic, classy Dolby. Still curent and vibrant. I too am dying for more music from Mr. Dolby!!!! But a great CD of remixes of an old favourite will have to do for now....
Subtle,
author: SeezleA great collection of the old classic from "The Golden Age of Wireless" -- without simply laying down a newer beat, each track tries to investigate the fluidity, driving sounds and eerie ballad of this track.
cool cd each remix is great in its own way and mr dolby is a great musician
author: mike scool cd each remix of 1 of our submarines is great what i liked most about was thomas dolby wasnt afraid to experiment with his music something that you dont get with some of the mainstream music thxs mike s

Typically smart, predictably great sounding, yet another shining example of terrific music from one of the great musical visionaries of the last twenty years. TD - get back in the studio soon and give us another Astronauts and Heretics. I'll finance the record myself, if necessary...
It is a must have for any Thomas Dolby fan!
author: davmoI am glad I bought the CD.Its a great CD. I have always been a big fan of Thomas Dolby music and this CD is a must have. I just wish that Thomas Dolby would release some new material. Great music and songwriting such as what Thomas Dolby is known for is a hard find these days. Thomas MAKE MORE MUSIC!!!!
- author: Franck SOUQUET
Hello Thomas Dolby, I discover your tracks remixies with pleasure! I wish you a very good year 2004! Best wishies Franck Souquet.
I hope Mr.Dolby will do the same with more of his old songs!!!
author: Alejandro Escajadillo/Aleks SyntekMy favourite tracks are 1,5,6,7 & 8
An excellent trip back to the '80s
author: Buzz ChambordThis really has brought back good memories of my late teens. A typical album of remixes in the old tradition. This is a CD to be dipped into, don't listen to it all at once or you might spoil the experience. Well worth investing in this if you are a fan of Mr Dolby. Please sir... can we have some more? (what about some of the unpublished stuff?)
As remix albums go ths is up there with the best.
author: Gary OlvanhillIt must be over 20 year since I first heard this track on the b side of the 12" He Blinded Me With Science. It instantly became one of my favourite songs. I was really worried about this CD as some of these re-mix albums have murdered some wonderful songs. In this case I need not have as these mixers have treated the song with the greatest respect and what you have here as some wonderful updated interpretations which keep the integrity of the original song intact. Well worth the money even with the postage to the UK and Mr Dolby it's time to dust down your Fairlight as your public awaits.
Long awaited Thomas Dolby release...when is the next one?
author: Brian PriceAs usual, Thomas Dolby's music never ages. These remixes are incredible, and I am still trying to decide which mixes I like the best. I own every Thomas Dolby release (CD/Video, etc) and they just keep getting better. I can't wait to see what is next. If you are a Thomas Dolby fan, you will love these new mixes. Buy it now! Mr. Dolby, PLEASE keep sending us great stuff!
Excellent
author: bt garnerGreat effort -- remixing one of the classic new wave toons from the early 80s. glad to see that Submarines is appreciated by others, and well enough respected to give it this release.
One of the Better remix cds...
author: PaulGreat Artist, Great cd, and great remixes! Cheers, Paul
Here's one for the DJs!
author: DJ LexIn a time when 80s remixes are a dime-a-dozen, this CD really stands out. The interpretations use most of the original parts plus updated beats and gritty analog bass-lines. With 8 different versions, there are plenty of styles to choose from. A must have for Dolby fans and DJs. --- P.S. - Mr. Dolby: if you read this... release more remixes!
80's classic gets a 21st century makeover!
author: PatrickArrived in the post this morning. Signed copy to go next to my signed copy of "Forty" ;). Each track is different and since its one of my fav. Dolby tracks, I love it. Hardfloor remix is the best in the club genre. Live track is from Forty, and stands out brillantly. The 12:58 "ricardo villalobos remix" is a little too much / too long. That said, I can recommend it to any Dolby fan. It's just a pity we get so much here and yet only seven tracks from Forty :( Here's hoping for some new Dolby material ;)
Great Mixes Of An Old Favourite
author: The GuvnorSome cracking remixes of an old 80's Dolby tune that was originally missing from his "Golden Age Of Wireless" album but was later added - forcing me to buy the album twice!! All in all 8 tracks taking up some 64 minutes. Among my faves are the quirky SALZ remix and the PAUL SEBASTIEN mix (music to break the speed limit to). Lots of good stuff although it's questionalble whether any sane person would want to listen to remixes of a single track continuously for 64 minutes. Even features a live cut from Tom's 40th birthday bash (concert available on another CD). Although not strictly a new Dolby release (except for the live version), we can only hope Mr. D takes some time off from his day job and gets back to the studio. Its even autographed by the man himself, which leads me to believe the CD burner at Beatnik is doing some serious overtime ;) Matt (guvnor@theguvnor.com)
