Album Notes

Doll Hospital is the vaguely malformed brainchild of downtown N.Y.C. music-scene mainstay Heather Eatman. Featuring Heather on arch-top guitar and vocals, Nick Mancini on vibraphone, Andrew Burns on drums and Jim Whitney on string bass, this tiny wayward orchestra takes us on a swinging tour of the fevered mind of a songwriter who loves Raymond Chandler as much as Raymond Scott. A surrealistic biscuit-baker and an alcoholic wife throwing an unsuccessful dinner party are only two of the more colorful characters who populate these whimsical noir ditties – taking us back to a time that never was, but perhaps should have been.

Cool 'neo swing noir'!
author: Ed Goodstein
This one is a nice surprise to me. Very witty--but also edgy in a kinda 'indie' way. Heather Eatman fits in really well with this group, who swing great beind her-- esp. nice to have the fine vibes playing. Reminds me in sound of Jill Sobule, but with some of the harder, arch quality of Dave's True Story too. I guess my fave is the boozy "Life of the Party," but all the songs tell interesting, if occasionally surreal stories that evoke Jim Thompson noir thrillers, 'Rat Pack' nightclub days, and yet contemporary. Also they all seem to be having a lot of fun!
