ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Formed in 2004. World domination in 2010. Join the ride!

Dolly Daggers was born in the Winter of 2004. Their self-titled debut EP was recorded in the Summer of 2005 in KingA Studion in Malmö (Sweden) and produced by Alice In Videoland’s producer and drummer Anders Alexander. Even before Dolly Daggers, the members were already known for their wild and unpredictable live shows, and so when the rumours of the new band started to go around the expectations were huge.

All band members come from different musical backgrounds spanning heavy metal to punk rock, blues and 80's pop. Maybe this unlikely combination is what makes the band so interesting. Some common influences can be identified, though. Bands like Danko Jones, Billy Idol, Turbonegro, Silverbullit, Hanoi Rocks, The Hives and Madonna were used as references in the studio. The band makes a point of not setting any boundaries for the music they make; they wildly mix punk rock with glam rock and disco. The result is a fresh sound; hard and melodic with roots in the 70s and 80s guitar based rock and with a few surprises. The band’s top priority is playing live and to be honest that’s where they really shine. They set out to make every performance an unique and unforgettable experience. When Christian, Jonatan, Maja and Ludvig enter the stage nothing else matters. It’s just great. It’s Dolly Daggers.

CHRISTIAN KAPUSTA – Guitar Christian, a musical anarchist, developed his own personal sound and playing style by burning the scores at a very early age for the benefit of extreme volume and great looking guitars. He is also something of the brain in the band and has a constantly waching eye on the creative process. JONATAN SERSAM – Synth, Harmonica By the time Jonatan was only fifteen, he had already gained a reputation as a harmonica player, which gave him the privilege to perform live with well-known blues artists such as Peps Persson and R&B legend Lee Oskar. He is the band’s musical genius; give him any instrument and he will probably play it great. LUDVIG SERSAM – Vocals, Bass Ludvig has everything every mean front figure must have. Gifted with an incredible voice that stretches from a tender Bono through a coarse Billy Idol to a screaming Vince Neil, he also has the looks and the charisma which if anything is proved by his sideline as a model. MAJA LJUNGBERG – Drums Maja plays hard and passionately. The rough rock style she learned from famous Swedish drummers Max Schumacher (True Lies) and Sticky Bomb (Wilmer X); the groove came from her time in Cuba when she had José Miguel, the country’s top percussionist, as her tutor. Maja also plays drums in The Models who, among other things, played opening act on a Soundtrack Of Our Lives’ tour.

Dolly Daggers will be the next big band out of Europe!
I must be honest, while reading over the bio supplied with the self titled EP from the dolly daggers, I thought to myself, sure; another band that lists big name bands such as Billy idol, Hanoi Rocks and Madonna as influences on their sound yet won't sound anything like that. I was wrong; the Dolly Daggers can bring it and bring it in a big way.

I was very impressed with the professionalism oozing from this CD, both in the song writing and the musicianship. Not something I expected coming from a unknown like the Dolly Daggers. The music is hard to classify, which is a credit to their song writing ability. "If I Could Dance" is pure rock and roll reminiscent of early Hanoi Rocks while "Never Ending" is 80's new wave punk like you remember it. "A Face To Put On" and "Numb" round out the EP.

If vocalist Ludvig can soften his heavy accent, Dolly Daggers will be the next big band out of Europe. I'm not giving this one back!

Oh no, not another prodigy from Sweden
Oh no, not another prodigy from Sweden! How much can we take of Sweden before packing our bags to head to the Mecca of brilliance? Sweden is the market these days for just about every genre of music, and Dolly Daggers is no exception.

DD brings it with a total ripping sound of a new age glam era. Ludvig's vocals are reminiscing of Billy Idol as he blasts the tunes. The songs are written well and all have sounds of longevity. “If I Could Dance” has a good beat and will get the crowd up and rockin’. What an opening track for this demo and the production is top of the line.

Christian Kapusta’s guitar playing and feedback echoing could be a Steve Stevens clone. Ludvig has an enticing presence, and as they work, their way to a full-length release Dolly Daggers will be shooting to the stars. If you like sleaze metal, get the demo and contact the band to give them some applause.

...for those looking for the next big cock rocking band!
Dolly Daggers are more of the nasty sleaze type bands instead of the glitzy and commercial glitter like Poison. Much more Slave Raider and Hanoi Rocks can be found within this short little demo than Cinderella. They compare themselves to Hanoi and Billy Idol and really that's not too far off the beaten path of where they are headed. Toss in a heavy doseage of nu-breed punkish venom and sloppy sided vocals with a snickering sneer and you pretty much have a glimpse of what they are all about.

The EP, for an unsigned band, is surprisingly professional. Soundwise it is fairly slick and for what they are doing, the music isn't half bad if you keep in mind what is being promised up front. The sleazy rock with a snarky attitude and plenty of dirt under the fingernails. Four quick songs and the disc is all done - just a nibbling sample for those looking for the next big cock rocking band. The music is a little too raw and raunchy for my own personal tastes and the singer is a real glam guy that is lacking a great vocal but for a first effort, this isn't half bad for the genre. I also got a kick out of the advisory on the cover. It warns "Fundamental Advisory: Extreme Volume Only". This music always sounds better when cranked up to eleven and after a round of drinks.

Never Ending is very punkish and awash in the New Wave sound. It is like being carried into the 80s again, whether you wanna be or not. Synth harmonies abound and its hard not to get caught up in the care free style and swaggering attitude. Numb is retro 80s pop and A Face to Put On has the Billy Idol thing down pat, with a big slab of punk on the side. Oh and don't dismiss If I Could Dance. It gets the EP started with a sleazy bang-bang that is instantly identifiable as being influenced by the likes of Motley Crue when they were "Too Fast For Love".

This is a genre that is quickly becoming a dying art so it is a pleasure to hear that somewhere in Sweden they are keeping it alive and kicking. On life support perhaps, but still breathing. If you are into the scene this is one worth checking into. Dolly Daggers have a bright future ahead of them if they can manage to corner the appropriate audience that can appreciate this kind of punkish flavored glamtastic music.

I think this demo rec is full of unexcpeted turns and that the musicianship by the quartet is very well performed and produced with an primitive rock n roll nerv rarely seen in those discopunk- bands fom Scandinavia...
well that's what I felt when I first heard the stuff.
