Album Notes

A true luminary of the tenor, Don Byas has had a huge influence on saxophone players and the jazz world in general. After a successful early period in the US, he went on a European tour in '46 with Don Redmond and forgot to return. He lived the rest of his life in Europe, actively performing and recording until his death in Amsterdam. This album is a wonderful look at Byas' creativity and style. Recorded in the '50s in Paris, it features his old friend Mary Lou Williams, along with a host of excellent musicians including Beryl Booker, Bonnie Wetzel, Gérard Pochenet, Maurice Vander, and Fats Sadi. And album no jazz fan will want to be without!
