Album Notes

Taking their name from the biggest long shot winner in the history of the Kentucky Derby, Donerail began to take shape in or around 2004. Inspired by the sounds of Cream, Dinosaur Jr. and early Pavement, Donerail performs what the band likes to call Americana Experimentia. It encompasses traditional roots-rock with charged aggression of the low-fi rock. Lyrically, Donerail contrasts their agro-pop music with introspective lyrics of loss, despair, addiction, and love...well, there's not that much love.

About Disconnected:
None of the album was recorded live, as the band was in the process of losing their drummer and moving to Portland, OR. The resulting sound is raw and gives the album a DIY/Lo-Fi sound. Their signature sound of dark Americana with introspective lyrics and themes remains intact. Disconnected is a no-frills debut that showcases the band’s high energy and thoughtful songwriting.

Reviews:
"No Caroline" is my favorite track...the song knows when to be soft, when to be loud, when to experiment, and is just well balanced over all.
...
The last part of the album features songs that grab your attention for being fairly different from the preceding stuff - "Violet" has some sweet moments, "My Son is Sane" is typical fare but plays with silence to achieve some good energy.

Damn good

Great album from a band I happened upon one night in Eugene, OR (didn't realize good music still went through that city). You'll like the album and love them live.

The first of potentially many albums from this extraordinary conscientiously loose band.

Excellent Debut of a Self-Made Band

This is a great showcase of a developing band. The song writing is excellent. While the recording doesn't capture the same feel as a live show, it gives you a taste of what the band can do and leaves tunes dancing on your brain. Can't wait to hear more new things from Donerail!
