Danni O'Neill was born in England, grew up in Toronto Canada, spent two years studying Child Psychology at Dalhousie University (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and then something happened.
"I remember when I was about six years old, I was with my grandfather at a café' in France. The owner asked me to sing for a soda. I got up on the table and put on my groove thing. It got to be my 'regular method of payment' each time we went to that café. I loved that feeling because I made people smile. I always knew in my heart of hearts this was truly what I wanted to do."
Despite her interests in travel and other studies, Danni O'Neill changed her direction and turned to music.
"I couldn't deny my heart. I began to play at various clubs, fairs and special events in Ontario. I have had the honor to sing national anthems at NBA and MLB games and I have performed at the opening and closing ceremonies for the Special Olympics (Ontario-2003). I realized this is what I really wanted to do; I wanted to perform."
She returned to England to pursue her musical career. Danni caught her first big break when she auditioned for a spot at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts. Of the 5,000 applicants who auditioned, only 30 students were accepted that year to study in the one-year diploma program for Pop Music and Sound Technology...and Danni O'Neill was one of them.
Danni graduated from the program with honors and during the interim, she had caught the attention of acclaimed producer Raphael Ravencroft (of Celine Dion fame and featured sax player on "Baker Street") who worked with Danni to record her first small project at the renowned Pisces Studio in West London.
Realizing her dream, Danni left London to head to Nashville where she immediately made her way--to make friends and introductions into the music industry. For fun, a friend who was affiliated with Balmur Music Publishing asked Danni to record some demos which ultimately opened the door to jumpstart her career. Balancing her schedule between her commitments in Toronto and her ambitions in Music City, Danni eventually ended up cutting some sides under the supervision and direction of renowned producer Garth Fundis (Keith Whitley/Trisha Yearwood/John Michael Montgomery/New Grass Revival). Despite his enthusiasm for the recordings, Fundis was called away from Danni's project to direct his attention to other responsibilities. In the meantime, Danni's demos continued to circulate around the row. One in particular, landed in the hands of Nashville producer
Mark Moffatt.
Moffatt began work with Danni in 2002. He describes Danni O'Neill as an artist, "Stylistically, Danni cannot be compared to any other artist. She's doing exactly what she wants to do both vocally and sonically. She's staying true to herself."
Danni's artistry is unique in that it reflects a combination of her passion for a good country song with the experience and training she received in Liverpool. Danni sang rock and pop at the Institute and these genres are combined to create her unique new country style.
"I really had no appreciation for country music when I was growing up. But about the time that Trisha Yearwood came out with 'She's In Love With The Boy,' I changed my tune and turned back to country. I like the story behind a good country song and my voice feels comfortable there."
Danni O'Neill sings only about topics she's experienced; only about the things she can relate to. She maintains a constant level of energy and she's having fun.
"Danni's music can be best-described as contemporary country. Her music has evolved into a commercial product with elements of pop and rock, but her country influences remain prominent," adds Moffatt. Danni's primary audience will most definitely be that of the younger generation, but Danni says
"It would be a huge compliment to me if the purest of country music fans get what I'm doing and actually enjoy it."
Danni O'Neill's passion for the music is displayed in the emotion contained within her debut album "PICTURE PERFECT". The ten songs contained on the project are energetic, youthful, fresh, and electric. It's a project that will make you want to dance. It's a project that will make you want to sing. It may just be the record that puts country music back in dance clubs and broadens the country music audience as a whole.
Danni O'Neill released her first single on GMV Music "Take Me Away" in mid-may, climbing the music row charts and recieving rave reviews from radio. Her follow up single 'What Is Me' has just hit radio and is making people sit up and listen with interest. The album will hit stores January 18th 2005
