ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
We are excited to introduce you to singer, songwriter and percussionist, Donna Kay. Born and raised on Ministikwan Lake, Saskatchewan and currently residing in Okotoks, Alberta, Donna’s musical style is a blend of traditional native and contemporary. She is a 2005 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award Nominee for Best Female Artist and Best Songwriter.
Donna’s latest release, The Journey, blends a wonderfully eclectic mix of aboriginal tradition, blues and rock, to form a unique, provocative cultural statement. Elements of myth, dance and drum combine with an honest, modern, pop-fuelled introspection that engages audiences in a unique multidimensional listening experience. Journey is more than a discovery; it is an assembly, a gathering . . . of spirit.

Amazing blend of contemporary and Native American music!
This CD offers a window into a world most people do not see. It combines contemporary music and Native American/Aboriginal music. This blend of styles makes it easy for most people to "get into" a style of music they normally wouldn't listen to, sort of like when a country music artists crosses over into the pop/rock world. It's accessable and unusual at the same time. Highly Recommended!

very unique blend of First Nations tradition and contemporary. Love it!
As a student of First Nations University of Canada, I find Cree traditions unique and sometimes hard to understand. The CD helped to blend Cree and English, in traditional and contemporary storytelling and music. The First Nations flavour of the CD is appealing and catchy. I plan to use it in the classroom as I practice teach in Ministikwan this fall. I am happy to have found the CD and thankful that the artist has opened her heart in song to share with us. I respect her way of introducing her heritage in the CD and am honoured to have heard it.
