Album Notes

All About Donn Bynum Saxophonist/Vocalist Donn Bynum lives in Long Beach, California, but is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. He began piano lessons at the age of four years old and started playing saxophone at age 12. When Donn turned 18, he joined funkateer-Bootsy Collins for several shows before attending Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. After graduating with a BS in Education, Donn joined the world famous "Commodores" and ventured on several world tours of Europe, Asia, Africa, as well as the USA. They also performed in Bermuda, Nassau Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands. Donn played sax, flute, keyboards and drums while touring with the Commodores, and played drums on the song "Brick House" during an appearance on the "Motown 25th Anniversary" television show. Donn performed for several years with international recording artists "The Brothers Johnson", and appeared on the tv show "Motown Live". Bootsy's Rubber band called him back for several years of international touring and recording. During that time frame, he played on Bootsy's cd entitled "Bootsy's New Rubber Band Live in Japan". Donn was featured on the song "Make My Funk The P-Funk", along with funk master keyboardist Bernie Worrell. Donn has also recorded and performed with stellar award winning gospel artist "Kenny Smith". He has recorded with many other gospel artists, and loves to share his gift of music while attending church. His first cd “Do You Feel Me?” is now available, with Bernie Worrell (Parlament/Funkadellic) playing keyboards on three songs, and smooth jazz guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. on three songs.

To categorize an artist like Donn Bynum would be akin to claiming all pasta is alike. With both there are many shapes, sizes and varieties to choose from and as they say, “variety is the spice of life.” Musical diversity makes Donn Bynum’s debut recording, DO YOU FEEL ME?, an exhilarating experience. As saxophonist and vocalist, Bynum is able to showcase strong melodies and bring forth robust hook lines from first note to last. A lifelong musician, Bynum began playing piano at age four and turned to the saxophone when he was twelve. He became so proficient that he was asked to join Bootsy Collins for several shows when he was 18. After graduating college he joined the Commodores, touring the U.S., Europe, Asia and Africa. While touring with the Commodores Bynum played sax, flute, keyboards and drums and when the group appeared on the “Motown 25th Anniversary” show to perform “Brick House,” it was Donn on the drums. On DO YOU FEEL ME? it’s not only his performance skills that are showcased, but his writing, producing and arranging expertise as well. Featuring Paul Jackson Jr. on guitar and Bynum’s sultry, ardent vocals, the title track sets a passionate tone for the rest of the CD. Tranquil and comforting, “D’s Melody” is a charming expression of devotion. “Midnight In Rio” is fierce and powerful, instantly drawing the listener in and “The Cha Cha Song” is a Smooth Jazz knock out! Donn Bynum has set the table… Bon appetite!
