The Essential 'New Age' Masterpiece
author: Silvanus Slaughter
I hesitate to say 'New Age' because many associate that tag with milquetoast background noodling, and I'll be decorus and not mention certain artists who gave the genre a bad name. Slepian's pivotal and maverick work has remained with me for three decades. Sometimes I play it as 'music', and many times I have played it for relaxation or inner journeys. My introduction to this music was extraordinary in the Bay Area in the early 80s, and of course, those memories color my perception of Slepian's work, but it stands alone up there in the Ambient Class with Eno's Music for Aiports and The Plateaux of Mirror, which is high class. I would suggest that if Bliss and/or Eternity have a sound, Don Slepian has brought it to Earth in "The Sea of Bliss." I treasure this recording alongside my classics by Joni Mitchell, Billie Holiday, Ennio Morricone, Eno and many others. It is essential music for any cosmic traveller or friend of Spirit. Let it alter you.

An Ambient Masterwork
author: Dan Hurd (of Gagging Lolly)
The original version of "Sonic Perfume", first released on 1980's "Computer Don't Breakdown" and subsequently on 1987's "Sonic Perfume" collection, has been a landmark musical piece in my life. Here, in a gently modified version, it is as enchanting as ever. Coupled with the longer pieces "Sea of Bliss" and "Awakening" from the same recording sessions, you get an album of unique beauty and power. An essential for lovers of electronic music.

Don Slepian's "Sea of Bliss" is just that. Blissful. He writes music that people want and love to hear. I could let it play all day. It is soothing, sensual music that will take you away from everyday cares and just let you immerse yourself in tranquility. I loved it.
