ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Don Stiernberg is a leading mandolinist known in particular as an exponent of jazz mandolin style. This recording features his own compositions(plus two standards) as performed with the musicians he most enjoys working with from his native Chicagoland. The trio he travels with frequently including Andy Brown on guitar and Jim Cox on bass is augmented by
Larry Harris at the piano and Phil Gratteau on drum set. The original tunes are accessible and fall into categories most listeners can relate to: swing, bebop, latin, and contemporary. The mandolin is presented in a fresh context, and all the players contribute expert improvisation and sensitive support. The tunes have been used at live shows and are presented here in response to requests. The acoustic sound of the instruments has been captured accurately by producer/engineer Steve Rashid.Something is here for everyone!

Fine tunes, inventive mandolin playing, and this band really cooks! A great jazz album.
