Album Notes

Doofus is indeed a strange name for a band! It usually refers to somebody whose elevator doesn't go all the way to the top, though it stops short of being an insult when used in a regular and conscientious program of good-natured badinage between and among good friends. So while it might mean "village idiot" to some, it's really a token of our affection for each other and the music we make together! We are a lively old time band consisting of two couples: Neal & Coleen Walters of Greencastle, PA and John & Heidi Cerrigione of Ellington, CT. Together we sing and play guitar, autoharp, mountain and hammered dulcimer, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and acoustic bass. Collectively and individually, the "doofs" are highly experienced teachers and performers with several publishing credits as well. We all have experience in teaching weeklong classes at venues such as Augusta, Kentucky Music Week, and Swannanoa. Our first album "What Did We Leave Behind" was released in 1998 and our second release, "Handful of Songs", was released just in time for Christmas 2000. "Relatively Serious" was released in July, 2002 and "Stream of Time", our latest release, came out in June of 2006.

Good, old-fashioned easy listening.

This is the kind of music you can have as the background to your daily living. It's pleasant, enjoyable and unintrusive - you can think about other things and listen at the same time. Plus, any CD which includes The Mermaid From Ontario is worth having.

We thought the instrumental playing and the vocals were good.

The instrumental playing is very good. The voices were of excellent quality and blended nicely. The reason that I did not rate it higher is that our taste in music runs more to the style in "Wood Stoves & Bread Loaves"
