Album Notes

Formed in May of 2004, Doppler Shift is an experimental jazz-funk-rock band comprised of Ray Pandocchi-tenor saxophone, Brian Niebuhr-trumpet, Dave Z. Marsalek-drums, & Jon Markese-electric bass. Inspired by groups such as the John Zorn's Masada, Ken Vandermark & the Gerry Mulligan Quartet, and fueled by James Brown, Ornette Coleman, Helmet, Medeski Martin and Wood, Doppler Shift has no chording instruments by choice, giving the listener a transparent groove to move your ass to. Jazz sure as shit ain't dead - it's just been waiting. Since putting together their first album masterpieces, Physics, and releasing the full legnth in October 05', Doppler Shift has been receiving the critical acclaim it deserves. With new drummer Dave Z Marsalek of SPIZM & Trioizm onboard, who knows what sonic limits this modern experimental funkjazz quartet will conquer!
