Resistor is the 2nd full length release from Doppler Shift, a modern instrumental quartet hailing from Chicago.
After 1 full year of experimentation & composing in a westside rehearsal space in Chicago & recording/producting in Spring 08, Doppler Shift has just released Resistor on Chicago\'s IZM Records on June 14th 08.
The album incorporates live jungle trapist Dave Z Marsalek into the helm {SPIZM/ The Chicago Junglebop Syndicate/ Triozim} & the rhythm section brings a more intense drum N bass element to the funky jazz stylings of the horns. Trumpeter Brian Niebuhr {Scotland Yard Gospel Choir} marks new electro-acoustic ground with the implementation of an electric pickup and loads of phasing/distortion effects, pushing the horn past 11 and acting as a distorted guitar sound. Bassist Jon Marchese rounds-up the hybrid sound with waves of hardshell distortion, fuzz and phaser to compliment Dave Marsalek\'s driving 200+ bpm live jungle grooves. Saxophonist Ray Pandocchi brings the sole acoustic side of the group with Vandermarkesque authority, with the exceptions of effects laiden on various solos throughout the release.
The album\'s 9 tracks are composed of 7 new originals {recommended listening- \"Resistor\", \"Forcefed\", \"Occam\'s Razor\"} and 2 covers {a burning remix of V. Feldman\'s \"Seven Steps to Heaven\" & an equally intense version of Dave Brubeck\'s \"Blue Rondo A La Turke\"}.
Think Vandermark 5 meets Squarepusher on a sugar high!

Resistor will blow you away!
author: David Z Marsalek
This Chicago band killed it with their last, Physics, but times have moved on & with the addition of junglejazz trappist Dave Marsalek on the drum throne (of SPIZM/Muse Cafe fame) this album really gets cooking quick! No messing around, checkout the title track "Resistor" to see what i mean. DEFINITE BUY
