Album Notes

Live recordings from Mexico-based Encuentro de Dos Tradiciones (Encounter of Two Traditions) features the virtuoso calentano fiddler Juan Reynoso as well as other Mexican groups: Los Campesinos de la Sierra and the Hermanos Valdez plus visiting US musicians Slattery and Stewart (Cajun), Roger Bellow (bilingual country music), Cathie Whitesides and Hank Bradley (Greek, Irish and Old Time American), and Kevin Carr and son (a potpourri of Latin styles).

Fiddling, or folk violin styles, is the glue that holds these diverse musics together on this album as well as at the festivals where the musicians played.

The CD is part of a three volume set. Volumes 1 and 3 are available directly from Dos Tradiciones, a non-profit organization based in Mexico City. (www.laneta.apc.org/DosTradiciones) Every CD comes with a bilingual brochure with notes in both English and Spanish.

The Los Angeles Times ran a great story about Juan Reynoso on March 112, 2005. It can be read on-line by going to the latimes.com and searching for Juan Reynoso.
