Doug Clark & The Hot Nuts are a long lived R&B party band that has maintained a loyal and passionate following since its inception in 1955---first coalescing in the Chapel Hill, NC area, and moving on to national and even international fame. The act recorded 9 albums on their own Gross label, beginning with “Nuts To You” in 1961, and wrapping up with “With A Hat On” in 1969 . The LP’s all had a similar theme of blending racey joke- telling (mild by today’s comedy standards), and well known tunes of the day, rewritten with their own suggestive, ribald lyrics. The group, and its outrageous approach to entertaining, ultimately became the inspiration for the fictitious Otis Day & Nights group of Animal House movie fame, a lasting tribute to one of the great icons of 60’s culture in the southeastern U. S.
