Michael Doughton is a musician, composer and lyricist, classically trained. Plays guitar and keyboards as well as vocals, accordion, percussion. Albums: Translingo (1999), Silhouette (2002), Tower Marquee (2004), Sandy (2006). Former keyboardist for The Sweet Spots, the All Star Soul Express, and One Quart Low. Former guitarist for Frolic & Detour and Wicked Laundry.
Adept at numerous musical styles: rock, R&B, blues, folk rock, jazz, acoustic, electric, ska/reggae, new age, hip hop. Vocal, instrumental, experimental. Basically loves music and all kinds of music, the more the better! A little hard to categorize because of his wide influences and love for all things musical.
The new "Sandy" CD features 9 guest artists: a string section, horn section, spoken word, humor, classical, fusion, acoustic & electric, vocals and instrumentals. Then suddenly out of the blue some mean yet lyrical and tasty electric guitar, followed by some classical piano and down & dirty Hammond B3.
Half the songs have lyrics, the others are instrumentals. Lyrically, the songs range from love songs to folk ballads, philosophical to humoresque. Poignant to joyous. Wistful to haunting.
There is something for everyone in a Michael Doughton CD. This is eclectic, entertaining, imaginative music that combines the best of numerous genres. After a year and a half in production, "Sandy" is his most ambitious project yet.
