The Douglas Detrick Quintet is a jazz group that plays the energetic and dynamic music of its founder and leader. Dedicated to playing original compositions and inventive arrangements of eclectic pop material, the Douglas Detrick Quintet is a creative and artistic group that has cultivated a truly unique ensemble sound over its more than three years of existence. “The Turning Point”, the first recording by the Douglas Detrick Quintet will be released in the Summer of 2009 on 8Bells Records. This live album of all original compositions, Detrick’s first as a leader, captures the energy and spirit of live ensemble creativity in the moment. Douglas Detrick, 25, is a composer, trumpet player and music teacher based in Eugene, Oregon. Equally at home as a performer and a composer, he is a versatile and eclectic musician. He holds a Master’s of Music from the University of Oregon, where he served two years as a graduate teaching fellow. He also holds a Bachelor’s of Music degree in trumpet performance with jazz emphasis from Lawrence University of Appleton, WI. He currently resides in Eugene, OR where he works as a freelance composer, performer, educator, copyist and transcriber.

Douglas Detrick is an award-winning and internationally performed composer. Douglas received an honorable mention in the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards in 2009 for his composition “Cape Creek” for the AnyWhen Ensemble. Douglas was a co-winner of a 2007 Downbeat Student Music Award for his arrangement of Duke Ellington's "Single Petal of A Rose".
