ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Kromatica" crosses over from piano jazz to classical and back again. At the center of this journey are five pieces composed under the rubric Funkitudes for Piano. With intricate blues, funk and Latin textures, they comprise Doug's updated take on the classical etude.

Framing these tracks are jazz standards Doug plays with warmth and originality, including three singular arrangements that tap the impressive talents of violinist Meg Okura, and cellist Dave Eggar. The finale is Doug's jazz tribute to his nifty nieces.

Doug is a Pittsburgh based pianist, accompanist, composer, arranger, musical director and teacher, whose versatility in musical genres ranging from classical and jazz to rock and musical theater makes him a favorite collaborator of singers, playwrights, theater directors and choreographers. "Kromatica" is his debut recording.

This is an outstanding CD by any standard.
Doug Levine's debut CD is simply outstanding. He brings grace, wit, and charm to his work -- attributes which would recommend this CD on their own. But it is the depth of the compositions and arrangements that I find most haunting. I shall certainly look forward to his next CD!

I really enjoyed listening to this CD- I felt like I was in an elegant salon sipping tea in the dappled shade of palm fronds! It made me feel really happy. Loved it.
