ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
These are excerpts from a review of "Music for Flat-Top Guitar" which appeared in Central Vermont's Times-Argus on 11/15/12. The review was written by Art Edelstien. " It's lonng been known that West Topsham's Doug Perkins is arguably the hottest flat-pick guitarist in Vermont. His name comes up in musical circles frequently, and he's been praised for his work with Smokin' Grass, a bluegrass inflected ensemble, and with (Jazz Mandolin Project) mandolinist Jamie Masefield. Now Perkins is showing off his considerable guitar chops and compositional skills on "Music for Flat-Top Guitar," his first album as a leader. Here in an eclectic 13-track program of traditional American, jazz, Celtic-flavored, and classical selections, nine of which he composed, Perkins shows that flat top guitar can be a vesatile instrument capable of tackling a variety of styles and sounds. The album was recorded by Kristina Stykos at her Pepperbox Studio in Chelsea and features sparkling sound and production that minimize reverb and other studio effects. Much of this album appears to have been recorded live and the listerner gets the impression that the players are in the room with them and having a lot of fun to boot."

Incredible command of melody and arrangement
Having been a big fan of Doug's for many years I greatly anticipated this album. Well, it did not disappoint my already high expectations! The musicianship from all involved is stellar and authentic. I have seen/heard many technically incredible people in my life, but few command melody (and sometimes simplicity) like this. It is a fun easy listen, demanding your attention at times, while letting you breath at other times. Everyone on this album should be proud of their work!

So if you are wondering if you should buy this, just do it! In a world of Justin Bieber and One Directon, we need more grassroots authentic music like this album. Let's help Doug get the exposure he has deserved for a long time!
