Amid the recent deluge of hyper-technique oriented bass solo albums, veteran Los Angeles bassist Doug Ross chooses to showcase his compositional and stylistic range on his self-titled debut disc as a bandleader. Nearly two dozen of L.A.'s top session players lend their talents to a smorgasbord of vocal and instrumental tracks, evoking comparisons to Tower of Power funk, Bill Evans Trio jazz, even anthemic rock on the instrumental closing number (featuring the amazing Brett Garsed on guitar). Of course, Doug's remarkable bass playing shines as well, both in a groove context and also in several tasty solo bass interludes.
Guest musicians include: Brett Garsed, Otmaro Ruiz, Albert Wing, Mike Shapiro, Ross Bolton, Bill Brendle, Mark McMillen, Carlos Arias, Chris Juergensen, Chris Wabich, Ron Kobayashi, Mel Nelson, Leslie Lewis, Wes Crawford, Darryl Walker, Marji Nelson Arias, Greg Ross, Rue Phillips, Jessica Taylor Purse, Maurice Ramirez, Nicolas De Gaulejac, Rick Musallam

An eclectic mix of funk, intelligently written pop, jazz, and other progressive contemporary music, this release takes the listener through entertaining and thought provoking musical episodes of instrumental and vocal selections.
