A beautiful new collection of some of the greatest Broadway and cabaret-style songs, plus several original compositions, sung by one of Charlottesville, VA's favorite vocalists, arranged and accompanied by Greg Harris.
Doug Schneider has lived in Charlottesville, Virginia since 1987. He is well-known and respected as a singer, actor and vocal coach. Doug has acted in productions of New Lyric Theatre, Live Arts, Four County Players, Heritage Repertory Theatre, University of Virginia Drama, and many more. He has had starring roles in productions of Ragtime, La Cage aux Folles, Gypsy, Falsettos, Carousel, Assassins, The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, Copenhagen, and many more.
Doug started singing professionally in 1973 in Los Angeles and sang in New York clubs from 1978 to 1984. He began writing songs in 1978 and produced his first album featuring all original songs, Out of the Shadows, in 1994.
"Home at Last is very personal. I see it not only as a tribute to my mother, but as a gift to the people who have supported me all these years. In a way, it is a private concert. Greg and I tried to create the feeling that the performance is live and upclose -- it really is a duet between the voice and the piano. Co-producer Mark Goldstein, who engineered and mastered the album, has managed to create a sound that makes the voice and the piano feel as though they are in the room with the listener -- it is an album lush with sound yet very clean and very present -- a very personal performance. We have balanced the CD with songs from the Broadway stage, great jazz standards such as "Stardust" and "Someone to Watch Over Me," and three of my original compositions. Every song tells a story and is a very personal statement."

When I first heard this CD, I found myself positively riveted to the CD Player. I could not believe the sound coming from that source. This CD is an obvious work of love and quality. It feels as though Doug Schneider is sitting right in my kitchen singing to me. The piano is a perfect accompaniment and just adds layers.
I really can't get over the quality of the production.
This would make a wonderful gift for anyone you love.

an incredible collection to enjoy again and again.

I recently purchased this CD and was absolutely bowled over by the power and elegance of this man's singing. I have rarely heard a male voice so flexible and inspiring. The committment to the music -- the words and the melodies -- without over indulgence and pyrotechnics is refreshing. The song choices are near perfect and the interpretations original. The beautifully nuanced and lush piano accompaniment only adds to the richness of the music and Doug Schneider's voice. There is a joyful love and vulnerability to HOME AT LAST. You will be happy to add it to your collection.
