CD Notes:
Right off the top we'd like to offer praise and thanks to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and give Him all the glory for this entire project. We happily, and humbly, testify that apart from Him we can do nothing!
We'd also like to say a few additional thank-you's to some people who have a special place in our hearts, as well as our ministry.
To our families: Your faith, love, support and prayers keep us going. Without it, everything we do would be so much more difficult and nowhere near as much fun! We love you all very much!
To "T.C." and "Big Dog": You guys are the best!
To our faithful group of traveling "doulos" supporters: You know who you are! We are so grateful for your encouragement and friendship.
To our church families both at home and on the road: We deeply appreciate your prayers, financial support and the opportunities you give us to share God's word through music.
Thank you all so very much!
Over the past few years as we've shared God's word through song, many people have asked us what the word "doulos", (pronounced: doo'-loss), actually means. Well, it's derived from the original Greek word, douloß, that can be best translated as "servant", or perhaps more precisely, "bond-servant" in English. It describes one who gives himself up to another's will. Paul is described in Romans 1:1 as "...a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God-". It is our desire, though we often fall well short, to be counted among those whose service is used by Christ in extending and advancing His cause among men.
doulos specializes in concert worship. Their songs appeal to everyone while offering praise, testimony, and encouragement. They sing contemporary southern gospel music originally performed by the Gaither Vocal Band, the Martins, the Cathedrals, Ricky Skaggs, and others.
doulos acknowledges God's blessing and the priceless gift of His salvation as they honor and praise His name through music.
doulos is now booking. They are available for Sunday evening worship services, banquets, concerts, or other events designed to communicate God's love.
doulos will lift your spirit!
The Group
Grant Jessen
Tenor/Lead
Grant is the Minister of Music and Administration at the group's home church, First Baptist Church of Wentzville. He grew up in the home of a minister of music where he began singing as early as 3 years old. Grant has been in full-time music ministry since entering college where he traveled with the contemporary Christian vocal group 'Spirit Wing.' After graduating from Missouri Baptist University he began his full-time church music ministry in his home state of Missouri. Grant and his wife Lori also enjoy the opportunity to minister together through music. They are the proud parents of two children, Sam and Abi. "It is a privilege to serve the Lord with gladness and to proclaim His love as often as He gives us the opportunity to share!"
Inspirational Bible Verse:
Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." NIV
Henry Farquharson
Bass/Baritone
Henry is a Divisional VP with a major department store chain, responsible for Store Design and Planning. He has a BBA from Georgia State University and is a USN veteran. Henry and his wife Sheila have two grown children, Amy and Bradley. Henry trusted Christ as his Savior and Lord when he was 8 years of age. Henry is the senior member of the group (The white hair is testament to this dubious status!) He loves to sing, and entertain, while sharing the gospel. "I am a 'whosoever' by virtue of my belief in God's provision and plan. The blood of Christ is His provision. Salvation through faith is His plan. His grace is freely offered to all. Are you a 'whosoever'?"
Inspirational Bible Verse:
John 3:16 "... whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." KJV
Brad Flanders
Lead/Tenor
Brad is the Director of Contract Administration with a 'Fortune 500' Pharmaceutical company. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1980. (This guy nearly bleeds Purple!) Brad and his wife Tangela have three beautiful daughters, Courtney, Lara and Elise, all still living at home. He grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ as his personal Savior when he was in the sixth grade. In the past six years, since following God's guidance to FBC Wentzville, Brad has been active in the vocal music ministry of the church. "I submit a slight variation to a quote from Eric Liddle, the great Scottish athlete of the 1920's, and a strong Christian. 'I believe that God made me for a purpose, but He also gave me a musical gift, and when I sing I feel His pleasure!'"
Inspirational Bible Verse:
Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast."
Rick Love
Baritone/Tenor
Rick takes advantage of the entrepreneurial spirit God gave him - he currently owns his own business in Wentzville, MO. He earned his Bachelors degree in 1978 from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Rick has used his musical talent for God's glory since he began singing in Little Vine General Baptist Church at the age of four. He accepted the Lord at that little southern country church when he was nine years old. His lifelong desire to sing in a gospel quartet was fulfilled when doulos was formed at FBCW and Rick could share the gospel in song. Rick and his wife Kathy have two daughters, Sara and Christi. "Minute to minute, day to day, I am overwhelmed and humbled by God's magnificent presence. I am so blessed."
Inspirational Bible Verse:
2 Corinthians 12:9 "My grace in sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
