  • Sublime album.
    author: Philippe Kalck

Moody and melodic, these pop gems grab you with strong vocals, intelligent lyrics and rich instrumental arrangements. Nostalgic sounding music for the 20-something generation. Influences include Big Star, REM, and Freedy Johnston. Music for remembering Summer while drinking coffee on the front porch in Winter.

  • Stunning release!!!

It's the first DOWNPILOT cd I've ever bought (thanx to CDBABY!) and I hardly love these guys!!! Much better than many other "emblazoned" bands...Amazing class and great taste for recording!!! I can't wait for the full lenght... Buy this one if you love stuff starting from R.E.M. ending to Modest Mouse and DCFC! Cheers from Italy!

  • Pure brilliance

This album consists of a trail of perfect semi-acoustic gems: wistful, nostalgic and powerful. Songs of amazing class, which might remind you of REM - Automatic For The People - era, only much better.

  • strong set of deep and inspired set of tunes
    author: Seattle Digitalcity.com

Weary, we hardly knew ye. Indeed, it was a bitter pill for enthusiastic friends and fans to swallow when the alt-country heroes broke up late last year. Shortly after being annointed as Seattle's next big thing, the members of Weary went their separate ways, leaving guitarist Jeff Curtis Brown and bassist/cellist Nancy Wharton in the lurch. Not for long, though. Thanks to the timely intervention of singer/songwriter Paul Hiraga, the newly formed Down Pilot quickly found itself hard at work on a strong set of deep and inspired tunes. Hiraga's voice and songwriting draw camparisons to early R.E.M. and Soul Asylum, but the tasteful manner in which Down Pilot tackles these songs owes a lot to the skillful musicianship of Brown and Wharton. Songs like "Sodium" evoke the same kind of dusty highway visions as the best American road poetry. Indeed, whatever inspiration Hiraga picked up on the long drive from Minneapolis is definitely working. And Down Pilot is getting their point across with easy efficiency. Come...watch a good young band get better before your very eyes.

  • sophistication and a heartfelt delivery reminiscent of great college-rock bands

Selections from 'thrive in a short season' hint at a growing sophistication and a heartfelt, homespun delivery reminiscent of great college-rock bands of yore like the db's and the Feelies.
