Album Notes

A few words about “Live Anywhere”
“Live Anywhere” was recorded live and shows the passion, chemistry and energy of a band on fire. What the listener is hearing is an honest documentation of the magic that happens between musicians who are “in sync” with each other and share a common passion for this great American art form that is “The Blues”. There are NO FIXES to these performances. It is what it is and what that is IS good. We hope you’ll agree.

ENJOY!!

"So I put in this cd the day it arrives, not reading the playlist at all, and as I am engulfed into some of the most honest, uncluttered, heartfelt covers I've ever heard, it occurs to me that this is reminiscent of the first time I ever sat down and listened to the emotion Elwood and Jake put into it. Low and behold, a tune or two later my but gets kicked by a searing "Messin With The Kid"! This is the real deal! Clean, straight forward, heartfelt! Glad I own it!"

Cd Review!!
Reviewers- Roger & Margaret White

"Dirty Pirate Hookers and the blues? Well, the blues ought to be Dirty and these rockin' Pirates have hijacked the blues and have a feel for it that has made it their own. Hookers may sell their talents for a price and these guys have been selling theirs in the bars for years, they know all the tricks of the trade. These Dirty Pirate Hookers are all seasoned veterans from the Detroit area and have been involved in numerous projects and have set a coarse well traveled. The crew is made up of Chris Rumel on bass, starting out playing in punk rock bands, Chris has been working with several of the best blues bands in Detroit these last few years including the Motor City Sheiks, Count Bracy and the Pleasure Tones and toured Europe with Harmonica Shaw. Holding down the back beat is Joe Pistorio, he's been on the Detroit music scene for 40 years, and played drums with the Motor City Sheiks, Rythmatics, Little Stubby and the Disappointments, and The Blue Suit Blues Band. Pat Shanley comes from rock n' roll, that illegitimate stepchild of the blues, having led many a band including Blowtop and the Woebegones. As the captain of this crew, Pat provides passionate vocals and plays soulful guitar, his rock'n leads takes this band on a hip shaken good time. Together they set their sails and take listeners on a cruise that is a tribute to the bounty of classic blues. Recorded at Memphis Smoke, one of the finer rib joints and blues clubs in the metro Detroit area, the CD captures the raw energy of a live show. This band ain't fancy and with the blues it's all what you do with it thats the pays off. These Pirates have taken eight blues classics and rocked them into energetic golden pieces of eight. With “You Upset Me” they grab the audience and drag them into “I'm Tore Down.” They play some familiar tunes like “Thrill is Gone” while their energetic delivery drives “Messin' With the Kid” and “Evil” full sail. To catch your breath “I Can't Hold Out” slows it down as the guitar slips and slides. “Shot Gun Blues” really nails down the blues with it's slower vocals and hard hitting leads. The band close out their show with the classic Freddie King instrumental “Hideaway. ” The Dirty Pirate Hookers have captured a gritty rockin' feel on “Live Anywhere” and they've hit pay dirt on their first CD unearthing a treasure chest of blues gold."

CD REVIEW- "Blues Notes" July 2008
Reviewer- Mark Gallo

"Dirty Pirate Hookers is a three piece that plays a solid set of classics on"Live Anywhere" with enough pizzazz to make them their own. Guitarist/Vocalist Pat Shanley, drummer Joe Pistorio and bass master Chris Rumel offer an 8 tune selection of BB, Elmore, Freddie, Jr. Wells, Downchild, and Howlin' Wolf that captivates. "You Upsets Me" opens the set but, while it's impressive, their take on "The Thrill Is Gone" is more so, primarily due to Shanley's exquisite playing. Those licks are in abundance on "I Can't Hold Out", a slide extravaganza that sizzles. Freddie King gets the Pirate treatment on "Tore Down" and a rockin' "Hideaway." The band covers "Evil, " but no one really does this justice. The Wolf did it perfect from the gate. Their versions of "Messin With the Kid" and Downchild's "Shotgun Blues," a hug hit for the Blues Brothers, are both impressive. Most cover bands are swimming up hill. That has been the downfall of many a band in the Motor City version of the IBC. Dirty Pirate Hookers are more impressive than most- now how about a follow up disc of original material?"

The Dirty Pirate Hookers are:

Chris Rumel- Bass

An Eastside Detroit based bass player whom has worked with many top Blues artists, including touring with Alberta Adams & RJ's Rhythm Rockers, Harmonica Shah, Johnny "Yard Dog" Jones, Lazy Lester, Doug Deming, Johnnie Bassett, Eddie Burkes,Gary Primch,James Harman, Motor City Sheiks and many others. I went to Europe with the Butler Twins in 1996, a group I had a long standing relationship with including appearing on several of their CDs. Recently, Chris had the great fortune to play some gigs with Kim Wilson, one of his favorite artists of all time.

Pat Shanley- Vocals & Guitar

Pat has a well earned reputation as being a top notch guitarist and passionate singer and has worked with many of Detroit’s top blues artists, including RJ Spangler, Regular Boys, Nikki James, Curtis Sumter, Cathy Davis, Terry Thunder, Paul Carey, Chris Codish, Scott Gwinell and Keith Kaminski to name but a few. As a former member of the folk pop group Tangerine Trousers, Pat toured the mid-west and into the South East featured at such venues as the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville TN, The Ark, The Ann Arbor Folk Festival and the benefit for Alejandro Escovedo in Raleigh, NC. Pat also received special mention in Taylor Guitar’s Wood & Steel publication. Pat also helped the Trousers win 3 Detroit Music Awards and the bands last CD “ Dressed For Success” got strong reviews from Performing Songwriter (“..Damn Cool!!”) and No Depression (“an unassuming powerhouse”) magazines. Pat is also a founding member of Blowtop, Detroit Music Awards nominee for Outstanding Indie Group and can also be seen and heard with the Woebegones with their lively brand of Roots, Rock & Soul. Pat also hails from the eastside of Detroit.

Joe Pistorio – Drums

Joe’s drumming experience is vast working with just
about every local blues artist of note. Everyone wants Joe in their group but do to the wonders of blackmail Joe remains a committed member of the Dirty Pirate Hookers. His work on “Live Anywhere” is all the proof you’ll need of his talents. “Spectacular” is a good adjective. Joe is the glue that holds it all together!! Also an eastsider!!
